Move the WSL / /dev/dxg / d3d12_dri.so probes into _prefer_wsl_d3d12 with
the probed paths as module constants, so the launcher call site is a single
line and a test can lay out a fake WSLg host without touching real
/dev or /usr/lib. The two tests now run the real _desktop_launch_env end to
end (selected under WSL+dxg+driver; untouched with an explicit Mesa
override, off WSL, without /dev/dxg, or without the driver file) instead of
unit-testing the helper with a precomputed boolean.
Docs: one paragraph in the Desktop guide on the automatic selection and
the env vars that keep an explicit choice authoritative.
Follow-up to Xipong's fix for #106117 (salvaged from #106118).
Fold the helper into _npm_lifecycle_env itself: the whole fix is one
is_file() check plus a setdefault, so a separate function, the
try/except around get_hermes_home() (it never raises) and the
dict-returning indirection were shape-gate violations. Build the path
with os.fspath so it is correct on Windows too.
Tests: keep the two invariants (file present -> NPM_CONFIG_USERCONFIG
points at it; explicit process/caller value wins and a missing file
sets nothing), fold the other two into the negative test.
Docs: one paragraph in the desktop troubleshooting page next to
ELECTRON_MIRROR describing $HERMES_HOME/npmrc.

- hermes_cli/plugins_cmd_catalog.py: new sibling owning resolution, the
.hermes-catalog.json provenance sidecar, search/info/validate, re-pin on
update, and the dashboard/TUI payload builders. plugins_cmd.py only
gains the hooks (cmd_install catalog branch, cmd_update / dashboard
update re-pin, dashboard_install_plugin catalog_name + kill list,
dispatch entries); the community index (plugin_index.py) is gone.
- hermes_cli/plugin_catalog.py: catalog_dir parameter replaces the
test-only HERMES_PLUGIN_CATALOG_DIR env var; live refresh reads ONE
published document (/docs/api/plugin-catalog.json, 6h cache, in-tree
fallback) instead of the unauthenticated GitHub contents API (60 req/h,
1 request per entry); in-tree and live removals are unioned so a stale
cache can never un-block.
- Catalog route lives in web_routers/dashboard_ui.py (the facade is off
limits); _plugin_runtime_status shared from web_server_dashboard.py;
hub rows carry removed_reason. TUI plugins.manage gains catalog_name
install, catalog row fields and an update action.
- plugin_validate: the probe context honours ctx.get_config defaults
(real plugins do int(ctx.get_config("timeout", 180)) in register()).
- Installed-state merge matches through the sidecar's catalog_name
first — catalog names rarely equal manifest names.
- extract-plugins.py emits plugin-catalog.json; deploy-site triggers on
plugin-catalog/** so entry merges republish it.
The user guide said an unpinned job "fails closed" on a global model change
and documented cron.model_drift_guard; both are gone. It now explains that the
job keeps running on its creation snapshot and how to move it (per-job pin or
cron.model).
Cron jobs are scheduled work bound to the source profile and its origin
channel. A clone that inherited cron/jobs.json fired every job twice: two
gateways with identical job ids running the same weekly jobs in parallel
(double spend, duplicate deliveries) until one gateway died.
Root cause: `cron` was not in _CLONE_ALL_HISTORY_EXCLUDE_ROOT, so the
copytree in _clone_all_into carried jobs.json along. Add it to the
per-profile history exclude set (applies to any source, CLI, dashboard
and TUI/desktop RPC all funnel through create_profile), recreate the
_PROFILE_DIRS skeleton after the copy so the clone still has an empty
cron/ (and sessions/), and say so in the CLI summary line and docs.
--clone (config-only) never copied cron; export/backup keep cron as
before (an archive is a portable snapshot, not a second live profile).
Python plugin CLI/loader/web/tui files taken from main wholesale; the
catalog layer is re-ported onto main's decomposed shapes in the
following commits. plugin_index.py removed (catalog is the sole
discovery system).
Four writers each dropped their own uniquely-named copy of config.yaml next to
the real file and none of them ever deleted anything: hermes setup
(config.yaml.bak.YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS, one per run even with no change), the
corrupt-YAML snapshot (config.yaml.corrupt.<ts>.bak), hermes migrate xai
(config.yaml.bak-pre-migrate-xai-<ts>) and the Docker boot migration
(config.yaml.bak-<ts>, .env.bak-<ts>). A home dir accumulated a dozen variants
with no way to tell which mattered.
hermes_cli/config_backups.py::backup_config is now the single writer:
backups/config/config.yaml.<reason>.<YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS>, skipped when the newest
copy for that reason is byte-identical, rotated to the newest five per reason.
backups/ is already excluded from full backups so nothing nests. Legacy
siblings written by the old schemes are moved into the dir on first use;
hand-named copies (config.yaml.bak-my-note) are left alone.
Live: three `hermes setup --non-interactive` runs against an unchanged config
went from three .bak files in HERMES_HOME to one pre-setup copy under
backups/config/; repeated loads of broken YAML produce one corrupt copy
instead of one per process (deduped by content).
The ledger in verification_evidence.db exists only to feed the verify-on-stop
guard, but the recorder kept running on every foreground terminal command and
every file edit after #53552 turned the guard off by default. Users who never
opted in still accumulated a multi-MB database (7 MB / 4.6k rows on one install).
Every ledger entry point (record_terminal_result, record_verify_run,
mark_workspace_edited, verification_status) now checks verify_on_stop_enabled()
first and returns without opening or creating the database when the guard is
off. verification_status reports {"status": "disabled"} in that case; no client
consumes the verification.status RPC yet, so nothing downstream changes.
Existing ledger tests pin HERMES_VERIFY_ON_STOP=1 since they exercise the ledger
itself; the new test proves the off path never creates the file (red on base).
Port Adolanium's focused-turn pose from Hermes-Bot-Mode#101 and
hermes-agent#88134 to the current typed Bot Mode implementation.
Match the busy signal's connection-qualified focused owner rather than
the gateway socket, retain worker activity, and ease transitions in
elapsed time on the existing shared face clock.
Includes owner-isolation and animated-pose invariants, both proven red
on origin/main, and native Electron before/after verification against
a real temporary Hermes backend with held loopback inference.

Add Move up/down controls for actual rooms without changing bot or folder
ordering. Preserve default pin/activity ordering until an explicit move,
retain hidden room slots, and persist Desktop-local order through room
updates, mirror merges, and hydration. No membership or routing writes.
Adapted narrowly from the group ordering idea in archived
NousResearch/Hermes-Bot-Mode#105 by @onuraycicek; rename already exists.

Complete the PR #101452 salvage, preserving sprmn24 authorship. Credit @kokhlo PR #101591 for independently diagnosing the in-flight rename race; use scoped authoritative room bindings rather than persistent aliases. Keep mention attention independent and retire late work after disband.
Each fix verified against main @ ee84ccd on 2026-09-08.
- windows-native: the troubleshooting entry told users to set HERMES_GATEWAY_FORCE_STARTUP (no code reads it), query a task named HermesGateway (hermes_cli/gateway_windows.py names it Hermes_Gateway), and described the Startup-folder fallback as a cmd.exe shortcut (it writes a .vbs run via wscript.exe). Closes#88077.
- faq: 'hermes config set HERMES_MODEL ...' does not change the default model; 'model.default' does. Closes#65855.
- messaging/index, slash-commands, irc: gateway settings are read from ~/.hermes/config.yaml (gateway/config.py), not gateway-config.yaml. Closes#65857, closes#78276.
- telegram: reaction lifecycle is 👀 then 👍/👎 (plugins/platforms/telegram/adapter.py on_processing_complete), docs said ✅/❌. Closes#78698.
- plugins: bundled memory providers win on a name collision (plugins/memory/__init__.py docstring: bundled, user, project, entry point, first seen wins); the page said user plugins override. Model providers keep the documented last-writer-wins. Closes#100281.
- architecture, index: terminal backend count is seven (tools/terminal_tool.py: local, docker, singularity, modal, daytona, vercel_sandbox, ssh); two surfaces said six. Closes#78252.
- quickstart: the Portal quick path was called 'free'; the login is free, the inference is billed to the subscription. Wording now matches integrations/nous-portal. Closes#78254.
Since v2026.8.31 (#99007 gateway-owned room authority, #99047 replica takeover, #99099 gateway-side turn driver) a room whose members all live on one gateway continues without any Desktop attached. The Bot Mode page carries the cross-machine and replication beats but never states this durability, so readers still assume the Desktop drives the room. Adds one bullet under Groups and group chats; groups.capabilities.driver flag per tui_gateway/methods_groups.py.
hermes mcp login --flow device (RFC 8628, #104891, v2026.9.7) is documented on reference/mcp-config-reference but the user-guide MCP page, where people land when the loopback callback cannot reach their browser, still lists only Desktop relay, paste-back, SSH forward and proxied redirect_uri. Adds one bullet with a link to the reference section.
The code-execution page describes project vs strict mode, the minimal environment and the RPC channel, but never mentions that execute_code calls share a persistent per-session kernel (tools/code_kernel.py), that a timeout kills the kernel, that reset=true exists, or that stdout beyond 50 KB is spilled to cache/exec with the path returned (tools/code_execution_tool.py). Defaults from hermes_cli/config_defaults.py (kernel_idle_timeout 1800, max_session_kernels 4). Remote-backend kernel and fail-open per-call fallback from tools/code_kernel_remote.py.
The Automatic Cleanup section on the same page states that sessions.auto_prune is on by default (since #54189, default flipped to True in hermes_cli/config_defaults.py), while the tip box under the prune commands still said "auto-prune ships disabled. Enable it if...". A reader gets two answers from one page. Rewrites the tip to the shipped default and shows how to turn it off.
The delegation page and the delegation-patterns guide still stated the pre-v2026.8.31 defaults (50 iterations, 3 concurrent subagents). Shipped values: DEFAULT_MAX_ITERATIONS = 250 (tools/delegate_tool.py) and max_concurrent_children: 10 (hermes_cli/config_defaults.py). The per-task output_schema contract (one bounded correction retry, schema_valid / schema_errors on the result) was not documented anywhere on the page. The Max Iterations section also showed max_iterations as a per-call argument; delegate_task ignores caller-supplied values and reads delegation.max_iterations from config.
Preserve Ben Barclay's diagnosis and replace the staging-file approach with
SQLite-coordinated writes and a five-second backup callback deadline. A
main-file replacement can replay an abandoned destination WAL; immutable
source reads can miss committed source WAL. Neither raw copy nor replacement
is safe when the destination is locked.
Refuse unavailable auth databases without raw-copy fallback, retaining the
existing close-browser-and-retry flow. Keep two invariant tests for lock
refusal/recovery and source-versus-destination WAL contents. Convert existing
text masquerading as database fixtures into real SQLite fixtures.

Route local producers to durable owner ingress before attempting the unowned
CLI lane. Preserve per-run/per-message IDs and receipt-first retry handling;
never fall back after ambiguous admission. Report cron admission as queued,
not completed or failed, in job status, the execution ledger and CLI/tool UX.
Native isolated Electron validation reproduces SESSION_NOT_OWNED on main for
both idle and busy owners. Fixed owner consumes idle cron, busy cron, local
DM and mounted-chat cron exactly once, keeps its lease, yields to queued
human input, and preserves the prior model-request prefix and tool schema.
Inference alone used a deterministic loopback wire stub; no paid model call.
Adapt the command-position, bounded-candidate and launcher-option work from
embwl0x's #76063 to the current detection owner, then add executable basename
projection from Rohith Pariki's #104338. Parse raw quote state before applying
existing text normalization so quoted arguments do not become commands.
Cover shell payloads and literal env split-string carriers, retain path-specific
rules and whole-command globs, and document the supported normalization rather
than claiming an OS capability sandbox. Related: #104308, #76037, #76063,
#104338, #78521, #86711. No automatic closing directives: the older carriers
also contain broader case syntax and git-option work not included here.

Carry the owning task's notification subscriptions independently of dependency
edges, within the creation transaction. Prefer its durable session over worker
and request-local sessions while preserving explicit overrides. Cover worker
CLI create and built-in decomposition, and retain conversation route anchors.
Auto-subscribe no longer upgrades an inherited passive subscription.
Slim adaptation of Christopher-Schulze's session-precedence fix in #85687,
expanded to durable subscription provenance and sibling creation paths.

Authorize route-only profiles using the ordered canonical route matcher and
served-profile set at both claim and delivery. Preserve secondary credential
boundaries, retry denied routes, and keep scope/parent anchors plus transport
provenance on synthetic wakes. Install the destination runtime scope rather
than inheriting the notifier's scope; a removed profile cannot wake as primary.
Slim forward-port of the direction in #101196/#101397 and #93863 (#93851).

Bind settlement to the exact adapter task and event. Rejected or cancelled preparation refunds the existing claim; cancellation after the agent runner starts remains counted. Keep profile-scoped callback context and the manager replacement guard. A fire count is not outbound delivery proof. Drop departed routes rather than executing their stale schedule.
Slim accounting-invariant salvage of #93174; preserve current direct adapter dispatch instead of reviving its FIFO/inflight implementation. Prior art #92858.

A process that finishes while the child is alive needs no handoff, but if the child never
polls/waits/logs it, the result vanished: the completion notice is suppressed in the parent
and the child's summary never mentions it. Finalization now attaches exit code + output
tail as unread_completions, rendered in the parent's delegation notice.
