Nine f-string sites minted `YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_<hex>` independently with the hex width already
drifted (6 on CLI/TUI/agent/import, 8 in the gateway store, 12 in portability imports).
hermes_cli/session_lost_and_found.py classifies schema-less salvage rows by that shape, so a
site drifting the prefix would silently change recovery. hermes_state_ids.new_session_id(now,
hex_len=) is now the only writer and owns SESSION_ID_PATTERN; stdlib-only so agent/, cli.py and
gateway/ can import it without the SessionDB graph.
Widths are kept per site on purpose: the Desktop's session-id candidate regex is pinned to 6 hex
chars for interactive ids; the gateway store and portability importer keep 8/12 (more rows per
second). Not a bug, so not "fixed".
gateway/platforms/qqbot/adapter.py hard-coded `agent:main:qqbot:<scene>:<chat>` for the
update-prompt authz key, ignoring the profile namespace build_session_key applies; a secondary
bot in a multiplexed gateway got `agent:<profile>:...` keys and its clicks were rejected. The key
now comes from the one builder via BasePlatformAdapter._source_session_key.
Behavior change: QQ update-prompt clicks are authorized under the profile-namespaced key
(byte-identical `agent:main:` for the default profile).
Both paths ended the source session as "branched" before create_session
ran, so a failed create left the user on a session already marked ended
with no branch behind it. Create the child first; the parent is ended
only once the branch is real.
Salvage of #11048 (targeted the pre-split cli.py handler; ported to
hermes_cli/cli_commands_mixin.py and the api_server fork sibling);

Refs #11030
Every inline glyph — CLI banner/status bar/response labels/goodbye, setup
and doctor boxes, gateway update prompts, WhatsApp reply prefix, TUI theme,
locale strings and the docs — used ⚕, the staff of Asclepius (medicine).
Hermes carries the Caduceus ☤. The ASCII-art logo was already correct.
Mechanical swap across 60 files (no logic change); both glyphs are
East-Asian-width Neutral so no layout shifts. Skins that set their own
`response_label` / `goodbye` are unaffected.
Direction from PR #7064 (@bixycler), the earliest of #7064 / #9611 / #15574,
redone against current main.
Fixes#9565
The classic CLI froze for ~0.7-2s between the banner and the first prompt. py-spy +
strace on real PTY startups showed the main/REPL threads inside
refuse_deleted_wal_generation -> _iter_proc_fd_targets: a second full SessionDB open.
_init_session_store built a bare SessionDB(); a moment later the goal/loop/heartbeat
managers acquired the same state.db through hermes_state_registry from the REPL thread,
which is a different handle, so the whole open ran again — including the /proc-wide
deleted-WAL sidecar scan (~4.4k readlinks). Each readlink drops and re-takes the GIL
while the startup threads (plugin discovery, MCP, skill sync, banner git) are busy, so an
11ms scan stretched to 1.3s per pass, and the second pass landed exactly where the
prompt should have appeared.
Route the CLI's handle (init + the two re-open sites) through the registry so every
in-process consumer shares one writer. One scan per startup; live A/B on the same box,
interleaved x6: banner->prompt gap 0.37s mean -> 0.15s mean (plain), 1.77s -> 0.39s
under strace. The registry release path replaces close(), so /quit, /snapshot restore
and /handoff keep their semantics.
* refactor(auth): one sign-in flow behind SignInState, rendered by the CLI and the desktop
* feat(gateway): /signin signs the free tier into a Nous account from a DM
* feat(cli): chat surfaces name /signin as the sign-in verb
* fix(auth): review follow-ups for the shared sign-in flow and /signin
* fix(i18n): carry the /status free-tier line in every locale catalog
* refactor(cli): the chat sign-in command is /login
* fix(auth): durable override cleanup in the /login sweep, and the sign-in flow in its own modules
Follow-up to #106480. Sites that ask for a code after the password stopped
the agent cold: the login classifier excludes one-time-code fields on
purpose (a password must never land in an OTP box) and there was no tool
for the second step, so the only move was to ask in chat.
browser_vault_enter_code
Fills the one-time code the current page asks for. Two sources, same
invariant as passwords (the code goes to the page over the supervisor
socket and never enters model context):
- a TOTP seed on the login: local vault `otp_secret` (RFC 6238, stdlib,
verified against the RFC test vectors), 1Password `op item get --otp`,
Bitwarden `bw get totp`. Nobody is asked.
- no seed: the surface prompts "Verification code for {site}"; the user
types what their phone/email/app shows. Enter on empty / Skip declines
and the tool returns code_declined ("do not ask again this turn").
no_code_field tells the model the site wants a passkey / hardware key /
app approval: hand it to the user's device and wait for navigation.
Per-digit OTP boxes (maxlength=1 pattern) get one digit each in DOM order.
Surfaces
CLI: sudo-style panel, code shown as typed (not a secret worth masking,
typos must be visible), Enter submits, ESC/empty skips.
Desktop: "Verification code for {site}" card via vault.code.request /
vault.code.respond (gateway), owner-routed like the other vault prompts.
Settings → Passwords & Logins: optional "Authenticator key" field on the
add form (base32 or otpauth:// link); items with one show a "2FA auto"
badge. `hermes vault add` asks for the same optional key.
browser_vault_fill's result now says what to do next ("if the site asks
for a verification code, call browser_vault_enter_code with this handle").
Six locales.
Verified live (real model, local 2FA site that checks the TOTP; CLI PTY):
A. login saved with authenticator key → signed in through 2FA, zero
prompts, code/password absent from the transcript
B. login without key → code panel → user types code → signed in
C. panel dismissed → agent stops and explains, never asks in chat
Unit: RFC 6238 vectors, seed normalisation, mint-without-asking, per-digit
spread, decline, no-code-field; Desktop card test (owner routing, trim, Skip).
Nobody should have to learn `hermes vault add` or find a toggle before "log into GitHub" works.
- browser_vault_save_login: when the agent reaches a sign-in page with no saved login it asks the user
on THEIR surface (CLI two-step panel on the sudo modal: identifier shown, password masked; Desktop
card with labelled Email/username + Password fields). The answer goes to the encrypted vault bound to
the page origin and is filled at once; the model gets back only the handle and identifier. Declining
returns save_declined; headless sessions get prompt_unavailable. Never a password in chat.
- Vault tools ride with the browser toolset (check_browser_requirements) instead of appearing only once
the vault has items — an empty vault is exactly when save_login is needed. browser_vault_list hints
at it when empty.
- 1Password / Bitwarden are login sources as soon as their CLI is installed; `vault.<name>.enabled`
is opt-OUT only. Settings shows Detected/Locked/Unlocked/Off/Not detected with a switch only for
installed managers; `hermes vault sources` reports detection, `--disable`/`--enable` flip the opt-out.
- Desktop nav/page renamed "Passwords & Logins"; empty state tells the user they do not need to add
anything; all five locales updated. Docs rewritten from "how it works" to "say log into X".
- New per-thread SaveLoginPrompt callback (agent/vault_backends/unlock.py) installed beside the unlock
prompt on every CLI site and the gateway bridge (vault.save_login.request/respond/expire), propagated
to worker threads via tools.thread_context.
Live: CLI PTY (real model, packaged Chromium, local login server) — panel shown, identifier + masked
password typed, server received the correct password, password absent from terminal transcript and
from every file under HERMES_HOME outside vault/. Native Electron (headless, isolated HOME/HERMES_HOME,
own Vite + CDP port) — card shown, "Save & sign in", server received the password, Settings lists the
saved item, password absent from the rendered UI.
The browser vault now draws from three login sources behind one handle
shape: the local encrypted vault (vault_…), 1Password Login items (op:…)
and Bitwarden Password Manager logins (bw:…). browser_vault_list aggregates
metadata across them; browser_vault_fill routes by prefix and resolves the
password at fill time only, through the manager CLI.
External managers are locked until the user unlocks them for the current
session. The new browser_vault_unlock tool (and the fill path, implicitly)
asks the surface to show a masked master-password prompt — CLI panel
(reuses the sudo panel state), TUI/Desktop via a vault.unlock.request
blocking card. The password goes to `op signin --raw` / `bw unlock --raw`
on stdin, never argv or env; only the session token is kept, in memory,
with a 30-minute idle TTL, cleared on session close or `vault.lock`.
Headless contexts (cron, webhook, api_server, -q) can never prompt: the
manager is reported as locked with unlock=unavailable_in_this_session and
fill refuses — the same posture approvals take where nobody can answer.
Config: vault.onepassword / vault.bitwarden {enabled, binary_path, …};
a 1Password service-account token skips the prompt for headless use.
RPC: vault.sources, vault.source.set, vault.unlock, vault.lock for Settings.
Tests (2, real subprocess against a fake bw; each proven red by sabotage):
headless never prompts or spawns; unlock feeds stdin only, token never
enters os.environ, fill routes by prefix and the password only reaches the
fill script.
Persist a redacted chained traceback in the private run output and expose
redacted last_error in tool and slash listings, including historical errors.
Keep the run_job concise error return unchanged for delivery classification.
Slim redo of liuhao1024's earliest #104545; adds forced redaction and keeps
formatting in a topical sibling. Local SDK/socket A/B verifies diagnosis
visibility plus healthy-script, clearing, and private-file controls.
Canonical tests queued under the campaign lock at commit time.

Keep parsing, contracts, gates and persisted goal mutations in one dispatcher. Adapters retain authorization, rendering and scheduling; TUI drafting resolves the target session profile off the RPC reader. Document ACP as unsupported rather than implying a goal loop exists.
Independent review: substring matching lost the selected objective (after a
message offering API or UI work, '/goal ship the API' and '/goal ship the UI'
kicked identically), and the gateway and TUI /goal paths still re-sent the
full goal. The rule now lives once in hermes_cli.goals.goal_kick_prompt:
the pointer replaces the goal only when the goal is >= 400 chars, contained
in the last user message, and >= 80% of it. The CLI reads the last user
message from its history; the gateway and TUI read it from the SessionDB
(fail-safe: goal sent verbatim).
Tests: a fragment that selects one option is kicked verbatim; a long goal
that is a minority of a longer message is kicked verbatim; all three
surfaces call the shared function.
`/goal <text>` queues the goal text as the next user turn to start the loop.
When that text is what the user just pasted (a handoff note, a plan the agent
already has), the kickoff re-sends it verbatim: in the 1,393-agent run
`/goal <2,000-char handoff>` came 16 minutes after the same note was pasted
as a message, and the agent spent 11 API calls / 6 min deciding it was a
replay, with the note duplicated in context from then on.
_goal_kick_prompt() compares the normalized goal against the LAST user
message (string or block content); when contained, the kick is a one-line
'[Goal set] Continue with the goal you were just given; there is no need to
re-read it.' Otherwise the goal text is sent as before. Both /goal <text>
and /goal draft use it.
Tests (2): a just-pasted goal (plain and block content) kicks with the
pointer; a new goal, an unrelated last message, and a goal pasted in an
OLDER turn kick verbatim.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
The simplification split _handle_browser_command into _browser_use/
_browser_connect/_browser_disconnect/_browser_status mixin methods; tests
(and any caller) invoking CLICommandsMixin._handle_browser_command on a
stub object broke with AttributeError. Hoist them to module-level
functions taking the cli host explicitly; dispatcher behavior unchanged.
Adds two bounded fast modes on top of the static /fast toggle, default OFF:
- `auto`: every user turn opens a `agent.fast_auto_seconds` (default 60s)
window; requests inside it carry the provider fast param, later tool-loop
requests fall back to standard pricing.
- `cold`: the same window, but only on the first turn of a session (no prior
user/assistant/tool history).
agent/fast_mode.py holds the whole policy: `begin_turn()` at the
run_conversation ingress arms `agent._fast_until`; `effective_request_overrides()`
is consumed in the ONE place request_overrides feed the transports
(build_api_kwargs), so the fast param is a per-request kwarg only. System
prompt, tools and messages are untouched — the prompt cache is preserved.
resolve_fast_mode_overrides() is now the single gate for static and bounded
modes and accepts provider/base_url: OpenRouter, Nous, Copilot, Azure,
Bedrock and custom base_urls never receive service_tier/speed (#34308's
route gating). Both existing callers (CLI turn route, gateway turn route)
and the TUI config.set path pass the route.
Surfaces: config `agent.service_tier: auto|cold` + `agent.fast_auto_seconds`,
`/fast auto|cold` in CLI, gateway (picker gains both entries), TUI/desktop
config.set; status shows the mode; web dashboard select lists the real
values. Docs: configuration.md Fast Mode section with mode table + cost note,
slash-commands, cli-config.yaml.example, locale strings for the two picker
entries.
Salvages #89991 (bounded fast modes) and #34308 (route gating).

Move the structural clone from the four call sites (auto review, codex
runtime, CLI /refine, gateway /refine) into AIAgent._spawn_background_review,
which every review path — immediate, idle-queue deferred, requeued — passes
through. Callers can no longer forget it, and the private helper is no longer
imported across hermes_cli/ and gateway/ package boundaries.
Tests now bind the real chokepoint (capturing at _spawn_background_review_now)
so they still fail if the clone is removed.
Widen #100802 to the two explicit review entry points. The CLI and gateway
/refine handlers built their own snapshot with a shallow list(), which
aliases the nested tool_calls/content containers of the live history. The
review fork sanitizes its transcript in place (sanitize_tool_call_arguments
rewrites function["arguments"]), so a /refine could rewrite the parent's
persisted transcript exactly like the automatic review could (#100795).
Both sites now use _clone_background_review_messages, the same structural
clone the automatic review uses. Regression tests drive the real handlers
and assert the snapshot shares no containers with the live transcript.
Audit of every last_status reader outside the scheduler (rg last_status across
web/, apps/desktop/, hermes_cli/, tui_gateway/, tools/, scripts/, website/):
- web dashboard CronPage: last_status was never rendered at all — a
delivery_failed job showed a green 'scheduled' badge and only a small red
'delivery: ...' line. New pure cronLastResult() helper maps the closed
literal set to tones (ok=success, delivery_failed/blocked_config=warning,
error/unknown=destructive) and the card now shows an amber
'delivery_failed' badge (title = last_delivery_error).
- Desktop hermes-bots routine inspector: 'Last result' printed the raw
literal; routineLastResult() spells out each one ('Ran, but delivery
failed', 'Blocked by configuration (not run)', ...), unknown passes through.
- /cron list (cli_commands_mixin): 'Last run: <ts> (delivery_failed)' now
appends the delivery reason, since last_error is None for those runs.
- hermes cron list/doctor and the cronjob tool already handled the literal
on this branch; no consumer compared == 'ok' for success apart from the
cronjob manual-run path, which the branch already fixed.
- developer-guide/cron-internals.md: table of last_status literals + which
detail field carries the reason.
Live repro (real 'hermes dashboard' on a temp HERMES_HOME with a
delivery_failed job, CronPage rendered against the live /api/cron/jobs):
before — badges [scheduled, default, telegram:123]; after — badges
[scheduled, delivery_failed (warning tone, title 'telegram: 502 Bad
Gateway'), default, telegram:123].
Run models locally as a first-class provider. The CLI grows a managed
llama.cpp runtime (engine install, model download, server supervision);
the desktop app grows the full setup and management story on top of it.
GUI surfaces ship behind the desktop --local launch flag (hermes desktop
--local, or the flag on the packaged app); backend routes and the CLI
are always live.
Runtime (hermes_cli/local_runtime/):
- curated GGUF catalog with per-machine variant selection: hardware
probe (VRAM/RAM/UMA), fit planning with spill accounting, quant choice
by context window
- derived recommendation: quality-ranked picks gated by a predicted
decode-speed floor, bandwidth-aware on unified memory; the decision
table is pinned as a test (pick AND reason per memory class), and the
Recommended badge explains its pick in a tooltip fed by the resolver's
actual branch
- engine install + model download with resumable split parts, cumulative
plan-level progress, and staged-model integrity (a split GGUF counts
only when every part is present)
- server supervision: spawn/adopt/stop, router mode with per-model load
progress relayed over SSE, abandoned-request cleanup
Desktop:
- Settings -> Providers -> Local models: one-click quickstart (install
engine, download the recommended model, boot) plus per-model download/
activate/eject, fit-ranked catalog with context pills
- model pickers (composer dropdown + Cmd+K) show staged local models,
in-flight downloads as live progress rows, and load-into-memory bars
- local-setup campaign tip for eligible hardware; System resources
statusbar widget (GPU/VRAM/RAM); in-chat load progress during sends
- friendly dead-server errors, and failed agent builds retry on the next
send instead of wedging the session
Co-developed with NVIDIA field feedback on RTX 5090 and DGX Spark.
Follow-up to the salvaged #92689:
- _profile_export_directory() now proves safety on the export dir's OWN
ancestry (_inside_git_checkout) instead of walking Path.cwd(). The old
heuristic missed the checkout whenever HERMES_HOME sat inside one but
the process ran from elsewhere (cron, service manager) — the export
landed back inside the source tree, the exact incident class.
- When every candidate is inside a checkout, warn instead of silently
violating the invariant.
- CLI/TUI export callers: move get_profile_export_path() inside the try
and catch OSError too — a bad profile name or read-only home printed a
raw traceback instead of the clean error main previously gave.
- Tests: bind module objects at call time (importlib) so sibling reload
pollution in the tests/hermes_cli sweep can't divorce monkeypatches
from the code under test; add regression tests for the cwd-independent
topology and the clean-error path.
- Docs: mention the ~/.hermes-profile-exports fallback store.
Route automatic profile exports to a managed store instead of the current checkout, and enforce a CI/Docker boundary that rejects archive files before they can be published.
Browser Use mode never read browser.engine: _resolve_backend_cdp() went
BU_CDP_* env -> CDP override -> cloud provider -> local Chrome, so
`engine: lightpanda` was a silent no-op on the default backend, and on
the built-in path it was skipped whenever a cloud provider, Camofox or a
CDP override was active without anyone saying so.
- browser_use_cli: when the engine is lightpanda and nothing with higher
precedence claimed the session, get a session from _get_session_info()
and export its endpoint as BU_CDP_URL; the browser is private to the
session key, so the own-tab preamble is skipped. The browser_exec
description gains a Lightpanda header (text-first, new_tab once then
goto_url — lightpanda-io/browser#1962).
- browser_tool: _create_local_session() spawns `lightpanda serve
--host 127.0.0.1 --port <free>` per session key (new
tools/browser_lightpanda.py), reusing the session cache, inactivity
reaper and atexit cleanup; a dead process is respawned on the next call;
orphans from a crashed Hermes are reaped through per-process records in
$HERMES_HOME/cache/browser-use/lightpanda/. New lightpanda_engine_status()
reports whether the engine is in effect or what shadows it.
- tools_config: "Lightpanda" row in the Browser Automation picker
(cloud_provider: local + engine: lightpanda; "Local Browser" resets the
engine to auto) with a binary-check post-setup.
- /browser status and hermes doctor print the engine state and, when it
is shadowed, the reason.
The bundled plan skill's auto-generated slash command fell off the capped
Telegram/Discord command menus for most installs (skills are the only tier
trimmed at the platform caps, alphabetically — 'plan' sat past the cutoff at
index 57 of 82 bundled skills). Converting it to a first-class CommandDef
gives it a guaranteed core-tier menu slot on every platform.
- agent/plan_prompt.py: build_plan_prompt() — plan-mode rules + authoring
craft distilled from the retired skill; prompt-injection pattern like
/learn and /init (no engine, no model-tool footprint, cache-safe).
- CLI: _handle_plan_command mixin handler (pending-input injection).
- Gateway: /plan branch rewrites event.text and falls through (role
alternation preserved).
- TUI: command.dispatch branch ('plan' was already in
_PENDING_INPUT_COMMANDS).
- Removed skills/software-development/plan/ + docs pages (EN + zh-Hans),
catalog rows, sidebar entry, related_skills references.
- PROTECTED_BUILTIN_SKILLS is now empty (mechanism kept); dependent
curator/usage tests moved to monkeypatched sentinels.
Salvages #67292 by @webtecnica (credit: first /plan command submission,
