teknium1 de114b3af1 refactor(platforms): one scoped-secret reader and spec-driven enablement/YAML-bridge boilerplate across all adapters
Scoped secrets — `gateway.platforms._shared.get_scoped_secret` is the single implementation of
the "scope authoritative, unscoped default-profile falls back to os.environ" read:

- plugins/platforms/buzz/adapter.py::_get_scoped_secret (113 LOC, ~100 of which were one
docstring paragraph pasted 16x) -> 3-line forwarder over the canonical with
`external_fallback=True`. Its one genuine extra rung (one-shot profile-scope build so a
Bitwarden-managed key is visible to the startup gate, #95216) moves into `_shared` as that
  keyword plus `_unscoped_profile_secrets`.
- weixin::_wx_secret, matrix::_startup_env_secret, the inline try/except copies in slack
  (SLACK_APP_TOKEN) and telegram (TELEGRAM_WEBHOOK_SECRET/_URL) -> canonical.
- The "extra-first, then scoped env" reader written 11x under 6 names (weixin._extra_or_env,
  bluebubbles/ntfy/photon/wecom `_setting`, dingtalk `_extra_get`, mattermost `_extra_or_env`,
  slack `_extra_or_env_flag/_channel_set`, feishu closures) -> `_shared.extra_or_secret`.
- `authz_mixin._platform_gate_env` -> `_shared.platform_gate_env`; discord/telegram drop their
  `_scoped_gate_env` twins; run.py / run_config_loaders.py / slack import it directly.

Boilerplate — three table-driven helpers in `_shared` replace the pasted docs template:

- `seed_extra_from_env(spec, home_env=)` replaces 8 `_env_enablement` bodies (buzz, google_chat,
irc, line, ntfy, photon, simplex, teams; raft is a one-liner and untouched).
- `apply_yaml_bridge(cfg, spec)` replaces 7 `_apply_yaml_config` bodies (buzz, dingtalk, feishu,
matrix, mattermost, slack, whatsapp); discord/telegram keep bespoke bridges (alias keys,
nested `platforms.*.extra`, generic-key exclusions). buzz and mattermost previously bypassed
  `yaml_env_setter` with hand-rolled `os.environ` writes.
- `env_is_connected(*vars)` replaces 5 identical `_is_connected` (discord, homeassistant,
  mattermost, slack, sms).
- 8 identity `_build_adapter` wrappers deleted; `adapter_factory=<Class>`.

Behavior change:
- buzz `_apply_yaml_config` returned None, so under multiplex a secondary Buzz profile got
neither env (correctly skipped) nor `extra` for relay_url/channels/allow_all_users/...; it now
seeds `extra` like every other hook. It also wrote reply_in_thread/reply_to_mode to the process
env even inside a secondary profile's scope (first-writer-wins leak, #80099 class); it no longer
does. BUZZ_POLL_INTERVAL is bridged through the same table.
- `home_channel.name` default when `<X>_HOME_CHANNEL_NAME` is unset is now the literal "Home" for
all plugins (irc/ntfy/buzz used the chat id; simplex/teams/photon/google_chat already used
"Home", as do the built-in platforms in gateway/config_env.py).
- weixin's non-secret tunables (send_chunk_*, rate_limit_circuit_*) now read through the scoped
reader instead of raw os.getenv — a secondary profile no longer inherits the default's values.
- `extra_or_secret` treats a blank string in extra as unset (falls to env) and an explicit False
as a real value, the strictest of the merged copies.
- slack `reaction_trigger_target` bridges via str(); `reaction_triggers` comma-joins any list-ish
value (was list/tuple/set only) — same env text for every real YAML shape.

Docs: website/docs/developer-guide/adding-platform-adapters.md (the template the copies were
pasted from) and gateway/platforms/ADDING_A_PLATFORM.md now show the helpers and the scoped
reader; gateway/AGENTS.md points at the one implementation.

Tests: tests/gateway/test_shared_platform_boilerplate.py — every plugin `_env_enablement`
reads only through the scoped getter (parametrized over the 8 plugins, spy on the seam, raw
`os.getenv`/`get_env_value` asserted untouched); buzz bridge seeds `extra` for a secondary
profile and still bridges env for the default; one home-name rule; extra_or_secret contract;
external_fallback rung. Existing tests repointed: tests/agent/test_secret_scope_tier1_migration.py,
tests/plugins/platforms/buzz/test_buzz_unscoped_requirement_gate.py.

teknium1 e73f94fa83 refactor(platforms): every plugin setup wizard uses the shared declines_reconfigure gate
Fourteen platform plugins hand-rolled the "already configured? Reconfigure? [y/N]"
gate at the top of interactive_setup (env check + info line + prompt_yes_no(..., False)),
with drifting wording ("X: already configured" vs "X is already configured." vs
"already enabled") and, for LINE and SimpleX, raw input() loops with their own
EOF/KeyboardInterrupt handling and no gate at all. Fixes to the gate (non-interactive
handling, wording, default) therefore reached only the core Telegram/BlueBubbles/webhook
wizards.

- hermes_cli/setup_platforms.py: `_declines_reconfigure` becomes the public
  `declines_reconfigure(label, question, *env_vars)` (any-of env check, so Matrix's
token-or-password gate fits); `_save_prompted` becomes `save_prompted` alongside it.
No alias kept; the three core callers are updated.
- buzz, dingtalk, discord, feishu, google_chat, irc, matrix, mattermost, raft, slack,
  teams, wecom: the hand-rolled gate is replaced by one `declines_reconfigure(...)` call;
post-decline extras (Discord allowlist nudge, Slack manifest refresh, Raft "Keeping"
  line) stay local and unchanged.
- line, simplex: the raw input() loops move onto hermes_cli.cli_output.prompt (masked
for secrets, "" on Ctrl-C/EOF) and gain the shared gate on their primary env var.

Behavior change: the gate's info line is now uniformly "<Label>: already configured"
(DingTalk/Feishu/WeCom lose the trailing period + inline ID; Buzz/IRC/Google Chat/Raft/
Teams no longer echo the current value in that line). Feishu and WeCom now gate on the
app/bot ID alone instead of ID AND secret. LINE and SimpleX gain a "Reconfigure?" [y/N]
prompt when already configured; their prompts now honour HERMES_NONINTERACTIVE and print
via the CLI helpers instead of bare print(). Prompt defaults (No) are unchanged everywhere.

Not touched: WhatsApp's gate keys on WHATSAPP_ENABLED being truthy (a "false" value must
not count as configured), which the shared any-set gate cannot express — left hand-rolled.

Test: tests/plugins/platforms/test_interactive_setup_reconfigure_gate.py parametrized over
the 14 wizards — with the primary env var set and the user declining, each wizard must have
called declines_reconfigure with that var and returned without prompting or saving.
Sabotage: reverting mattermost's gate fails that row.

teknium1 73eadd54f5 fix(platforms): standalone senders return redacted error envelopes
20 `plugins/platforms/*/adapter.py::_standalone_send` paths (the out-of-process cron /
send_message delivery) built `{"error": f"... {e}"}` by hand — 83 literals. The exception text
of an httpx/aiohttp failure can carry the Authorization header, a signed URL or a response body
with the token in it, and that string became the tool result the model reads. Only sms went
through the redacting `tools.send_message_senders._error`; discord kept a private regex that
only knew `Authorization: Bot`.

`gateway.platforms._shared.send_error(message)` wraps that helper (agent.redact +
URL-secret scrub) and every standalone literal now goes through it, including the three
envelopes that carry extra keys (discord warnings, photon error_class/retryable, whatsapp's
`(None, err)` tuple). The sms and discord local wrappers are deleted. Telegram already
delegated to the core sender and is untouched.

Behavior change (security): vendor exception text in standalone-send failures is redacted
before reaching the model.

teknium1 ad305bead5 refactor(gateway): send_exec_approval is a base template method; 9 adapters only render buttons
Nine surfaces (feishu, teams, slack, telegram, whatsapp_cloud, qqbot, matrix, discord, relay)
each re-derived the approval choice set — [Allow Once]; session + always unless smart-denied;
[Deny] — and four of them (discord, slack, teams, whatsapp_cloud) never adopted
base._format_exec_approval, so header/reason/smart-deny wording and truncation budgets drifted
per adapter. Three separate commits had to touch 5–9 adapters for one semantic fix.

BasePlatformAdapter.send_exec_approval now builds an ExecApprovalPrompt (shared text via
_format_exec_approval, shared `(label, choice, style)` rows via _exec_approval_actions) and
hands it to the `_send_exec_approval_prompt` hook. Each adapter keeps only its widget mapping
(~10–20 LOC); platform wording stays via the existing `_EA_*` class attrs, and a new
`_exec_approval_cmd_budget` hook lets Slack/Discord budget the command against their hard
message caps (3000-char section / 2000-char message) instead of computing it inline.
`_EA_REASON_BUDGET` covers Slack's 500 / Discord's 300 reason caps.

The runner used to detect button support by `hasattr(type(adapter), "send_exec_approval")`;
that is now true for every adapter, so `_renders_exec_approval_buttons` asks
`supports_exec_approval_buttons()` (hook overridden?) and keeps the duck-typed check for
non-BasePlatformAdapter classes.

Visible text changes (button semantics unchanged everywhere):
- Discord: the smart-deny line now follows the reason (was inside the header before the
fence); the truncation marker is "..." not "\n... [truncated]".
- Slack: smart-deny line follows the reason instead of the header.
- Teams: unchanged (same 2000-char preview, same smart-deny block).
- WhatsApp Cloud: identical text; body still capped at 1024.
- QQBot/relay: unchanged.

teknium1 aac36fd96f refactor(gateway): text-batch flush lives on BasePlatformAdapter; shield + cancel-race fixes reach all 8 adapters
Eight adapters (discord, telegram, wecom, matrix, whatsapp, simplex, feishu, weixin) each kept a
copy of the delayed text-batch flush that base._enqueue_text_event schedules. Two correctness
fixes had landed in single copies only: Discord's asyncio.shield around the dispatch (#12444 —
a late chunk cancelling the flush task aborted the in-flight agent turn) and WeCom/Weixin's
synchronous task-identity check before the pop (a superseded task waking late popped the event
and the successor found nothing). The other adapters carried both bugs latent.

The base now owns `_flush_text_batch` with both fixes, plus the `_pending_text_batches` /
`_pending_text_batch_tasks` dicts and `_SPLIT_THRESHOLD` / delay attrs (defaults; adapters set
their own). Platform policy goes through three small hooks instead of a copied body:
`_text_batch_delay_for(pending)` (Telegram's fast/short tiers, WeCom's attachment-only wait),
`_pop_text_batch(key)` (Feishu's side count table) and `_dispatch_text_batch(event)` (Feishu's
per-chat lock). Telegram keeps its `_flush_buffered` body because its contract differs on
purpose — a cancel after the pop must hold-and-re-raise so teardown can stop a flush — and gains
the identity check there. Matrix's `_split_threshold` is renamed to the shared `_SPLIT_THRESHOLD`;
SimpleX exposes its single delay through the shared attr names.

`helpers.TextBatchAggregator` (zero users) sits inside the revert-scheduled PLUGIN-COMPAT block
and is left for that revert.

teknium1 2175df4034 fix(feishu): keep source.message_id in step with the batched event id
Text and media batching advance the coalesced MessageEvent.message_id to
the newest message but left source.message_id at the first one, so after
a batch the reply anchor and the event id disagreed. Advance both together
at the two enqueue sites.

bixycler 70d0f556d7 fix(branding): use the Caduceus ☤ (U+2624), not the Rod of Asclepius ⚕ (U+2625)
Every inline glyph — CLI banner/status bar/response labels/goodbye, setup
and doctor boxes, gateway update prompts, WhatsApp reply prefix, TUI theme,
locale strings and the docs — used ⚕, the staff of Asclepius (medicine).
Hermes carries the Caduceus ☤. The ASCII-art logo was already correct.

Mechanical swap across 60 files (no logic change); both glyphs are
East-Asian-width Neutral so no layout shifts. Skins that set their own
`response_label` / `goodbye` are unaffected.

Direction from PR #7064 (@bixycler), the earliest of #7064 / #9611 / #15574,
redone against current main.

nightq d131391ff9 fix(feishu): stop markdown-escaping inbound post text
`_render_text_element` ran every inbound post text element through
`_escape_markdown_text`, so a user's `` `print('hi')` `` reached the model as
`` \`print\('hi'\)\` ``. The agent echoed those backslashes in its reply and
Feishu's `md` renderer then showed literal `\*\*bold\*\*` instead of bold.

Post elements carry raw text plus separate style flags; the style wrappers
already rebuild the markdown, so the text itself is passed through untouched.
The outbound path never escaped. Mentions/emoji labels keep their escaping.

Salvage of PR #9991 by @nightq onto `plugins/platforms/feishu/adapter.py`.

Teknium d76856cc69 fix(migrate): shared-ingress adapters declare serves_profile_prefix so migration reports them as notices
#108952 taught sms/line/teams/bluebubbles/whatsapp_cloud/msgraph_webhook/feishu/wecom-callback to
serve a secondary at /p/<profile>/ on the default listener; #108928's preflight derives its
port-binder blocker from the adapter class's serves_profile_prefix flag, which those adapters never
set. Merged together, migrate would have blocked every profile the ingress work just unblocked.
Declare the flag on each shared-ingress adapter and run plugin discovery before consulting the
registry (plugin adapters are absent from a bare CLI process otherwise).

Teknium 6fc76ce751 feat(platforms): bind through shared_ingress.bind_listener in every inbound-port adapter
sms, line, teams, bluebubbles, msgraph_webhook, whatsapp_cloud, wecom_callback and
feishu (webhook mode) build their aiohttp app exactly as before and hand it to
bind_listener(): standalone and default-profile behaviour is unchanged (same host,
port, reuse_address, access_log), while a multiplex secondary publishes the app for
/p/<profile>/ forwarding instead of binding. BlueBubbles registers the /p/<profile>/
URL with its server; LINE builds media URLs off the shared listener's prefix when no
LINE_PUBLIC_URL is set; WeCom skips its own port-in-use probe in shared mode.
2026-09-12 01:53:15 -07:00
Teknium 199c66f70f fix(gateway): adapter settings resolve per profile under multiplex, not from the default's env
Under gateway.multiplex_profiles a served secondary profile's adapter is built and
connected inside _profile_runtime_scope while os.environ still holds the DEFAULT
profile's .env. Credentials and allowlists were already read through the profile
scope (get_scoped_secret / _platform_gate_env), but the non-credential SETTINGS the
adapters read with bare os.getenv were not, so a served profile silently ran with the
default profile's values: webhook listener host/port/URL (SMS, Teams, LINE, Feishu,
BlueBubbles), Signal's connect URL/account gate, mention gating and reactions (Slack,
Matrix, Signal, Feishu, BlueBubbles, Discord), Matrix thread/session/E2EE policy and
message-length limits, Discord backfill/command-sync/attachment caps, Buzz reply mode
and env enablement seed, A2A agent name/port/description/toolsets, and the
api_server model alias.

Every such read now goes through the existing scoped reader (get_scoped_secret, or the
adapter's own scope-aware helper): under a secondary's scope the profile's own .env is
authoritative and a miss yields the default -- never another profile's value; the
default profile and single-profile gateways keep reading os.environ exactly as before.
Buzz and A2A previously short-circuited to "extra only / built-in default" under a
scope, which also dropped the profile's OWN .env; they now read the scope so a served
profile matches its standalone gateway.

The parity harness (temp HERMES_HOME, default + 2 secondaries with distinct values for
every env var each adapter reads, real load_gateway_config + adapter factory in both
topologies) went from 70 raw process-env bypass sites across 14 adapters to only the
HERMES_<PLATFORM>_* perf knobs and the api_server listener vars, which are process-
global by design (agent.secret_scope._GLOBAL_ENV_*).

Teknium adf23550f5 fix(tools): profile-scoped checkpoint/snapshot paths, tool caches, TZ and schema paths under multiplex
Under `gateway.multiplex_profiles` one gateway process serves every profile
under ~/.hermes/profiles/NAME/; each routed turn runs with a context-local
HERMES_HOME override while `os.environ` still holds the DEFAULT profile's
values. Anything evaluated once at import, or memoised in a single unkeyed
module slot, therefore freezes the LAUNCH profile's value and leaks it into
every other profile's turns. This lands the tools-side half of that class:

- tools/process_registry.py, tools/environments/{modal,singularity}.py:
  `_checkpoint_path()` / `_snapshot_store()` resolve `get_hermes_home()` at
call time (same seam as `tools/skills_tool._skills_dir`, so the existing
`monkeypatch.setattr(CHECKPOINT_PATH)` test sites keep working). Completes
  the checkpoint_manager / sticker_cache half cherry-picked from #56315.
- plugins/platforms/feishu/feishu_comment_rules.py: `_MtimeCache` is now
path-keyed (accepts a Path or a zero-arg resolver, one (mtime, data) slot
  per resolved path) with `invalidate()`; `_rules_file()` / `_pairing_file()`
resolve the routed profile's files. Proposed in #63962.
- tools/tool_output_limits.py, tools/browser_tool.py, tools/browser_camofox.py:
  the process-lifetime config caches are dicts keyed by `hermes_home_key()`;
the `_X_resolved` flags and the lifecycle reset keep their shape.
tools/file_tools.py drops its private `file_read_max_chars` memo and reads
  the already mtime+path-cached `load_config_readonly()`.
- hermes_time.py: `get_timezone_name()`; when `is_multiplex_active()` the
env `HERMES_TIMEZONE` (bridged from the default profile's config at gateway
startup) is ignored in favour of the routed profile's config.yaml. Both
sandbox TZ sites (code_execution_env/_tool) now use it.
- tools/cronjob_tools.py, tools/tts_tool.py, tools/skill_manager_tool.py:
the static schema text is profile-neutral and `dynamic_schema_overrides=`
  rebuilds the `display_hermes_home()` / create-dir hint per
`get_definitions()`, so a routed profile's model sees its own paths.

Teknium 545e74d0ea fix(gateway): a secondary profile's config.yaml no longer poisons the process env under multiplex
Under gateway.multiplex_profiles every secondary profile's config loads inside
_profile_runtime_scope, yet every apply_yaml_config_fn hook (feishu, matrix,
whatsapp, slack, dingtalk, discord non-gate keys, telegram non-gate keys) and
gateway/config_loader.py::bridge_core_env_settings still wrote os.environ there.
First-writer-wins: the first secondary with a require_mention / allowlist /
allow_bots / reactions block made that policy the DEFAULT profile's (live:
TELEGRAM_REQUIRE_MENTION written from a secondary load), and secondaries read
the default's env for the same keys.

- gateway/platforms/_shared.py::yaml_env_setter: the one env-write shape for
YAML->env bridges — env wins, skipped under an active secondary scope.
- Every hook now seeds its values into the profile's PlatformConfig.extra and
  uses yaml_env_setter; bridge_core_env_settings seeds telegram/signal
require_mention into extra and skips the env write under scope.
- Readers that bypassed extra/scope now consult extra first (matrix flags +
  session_scope, slack reactions, telegram reactions/mention_patterns/_extra_bool,
  discord reactions/auto_thread/history_backfill/approval_mentions/allow_mentions,
  feishu allow_bots, dingtalk mention_patterns, signal require_mention).

Teknium 2952dc62bc fix(feishu): drive-comment turns and WS-thread callbacks run under their own profile, not the launch profile
Under `gateway.multiplex_profiles`, a Feishu adapter is built and connected inside
`_profile_runtime_scope` (HERMES_HOME override + secret scope as contextvars), but two
hops started from an EMPTY context and so executed under the LAUNCH profile:

- `feishu_comment.handle_drive_comment_event` ran the whole comment AIAgent turn on a bare
  `loop.run_in_executor(None, ...)`: model/credential resolution raised
`UnscopedSecretError` (silent empty reply), or — when the default profile held the same
  key — used the default profile's config/model/state for a secondary profile's doc.
- `FeishuAdapter._connect_websocket` ran the lark WS client on a bare executor thread. The
SDK fires every event/card callback on that thread and they hop back to the adapter loop via
`run_coroutine_threadsafe`, which copies the CALLER's context — so all pre-handler work
(inbound media caching, `.update_response` marker, FEISHU_REACTIONS env, drive comments)
ran unscoped. The pending-inbound drainer thread spawned from that callback had the same
  shape.

Carry the scope across each hop with `contextvars.copy_context().run`. For the SDK-owned
thread the snapshot is taken once at `_connect_websocket` (inside the profile scope; the
restart supervisor task inherits it too), so no per-callback re-scoping is needed.

Supersedes the `_submit_on_loop` re-scoping approach of #63962 (nateEc, earliest fix):
scoping the WS thread at its source covers every callback without rebuilding the secret
scope per call.

kshitijk4poor ab2f4602de refactor: MessageEvent to gateway/platforms/event.py; ElicitationHandler takes a call_context thunk
Breaks the two import cycles that forced Protocol stand-ins in the F821 sweep, so the two
sites now name the real types.

gateway/platforms/event.py (new leaf): MessageType, ProcessingOutcome, MessageEvent moved
out of base.py verbatim. Their only dependency is gateway.session.SessionSource; base.py
imported helpers.py at module level, so helpers could not name MessageEvent. Now
TextBatchAggregator is typed by the real MessageEvent. 249 importers repointed
(`from gateway.platforms.base import` -> `.event`, preserving each import's layout);
gateway.platforms.__init__ re-exports from .event. The three revert-scheduled PLUGIN-COMPAT
pointers that named these symbols (gateway.slash_commands → MessageType, dingtalk → MessageType,
photon → ProcessingOutcome) and their COMPAT_MANIFEST rows now target gateway.platforms.event.
Docs updated: ADDING_A_PLATFORM.md, adding-platform-adapters.md (en + zh-Hans).

tools/mcp_tool_sampling.py: ElicitationHandler no longer holds a back-reference to its
MCPServerTask (mcp_tool imports sampling, so the task type cannot be named there). It only
ever read owner._pending_call_context, so it takes `call_context: Callable[[], Context | None]`
and MCPServerTask passes `lambda: self._pending_call_context`. The consent call is one
`functools.partial`, run directly or inside the captured Context.

ty on the 11 touched production files vs origin/main: 0 new diagnostics, 14 resolved.
(The one `source: SessionSource = None` diagnostic moves with the class; typing it Optional
exposes ~60 unguarded call sites — separate follow-up.)

Tests: tests/gateway + tests/plugins + tests/tools + touched files, 18,235 passed; the 31
failures reproduce identically on origin/main (macOS /private/tmp, systemd socket,
long-path fixtures, live-service tests).

Teknium 2776813df3 compat(plugins): temporary import-path shims for external plugins — ONE commit, revert on schedule
The Sep 2026 decomposition (PR #102117) makes internal import paths a non-API: names now live in
the focused modules that define them. This commit is the ONLY thing keeping the old paths alive,
so external plugins have time to update. It is deliberately a single, unsquashed commit:

    git revert <this sha>

removes every shim, stub and manifest at once on the announced date. Nothing in-tree may depend on
these pointers: scripts/check_compat_pointers.py (wired into lint.yml) fails CI if it does.

What it adds (see COMPAT_MANIFEST.md, compat_manifest.json):
- 332 facade modules get one delimited `PLUGIN-COMPAT` block appended at the end of the file
- 1,172 moved names resolved lazily via a module `__getattr__` (PEP 562) — never a top-level import,
so no import cycles; facades that already had `__getattr__` get a chained one
- 592 third-party/stdlib names the old modules used to expose, with their original import statements
- 266 public definitions that had been deleted as unused, restored byte-for-byte from the pre-decomposition
tree (+40 private helpers and 16 imports pulled in only because a restored definition needs them)
- 3 deleted modules recreated as re-export stubs (gateway/startup_watchdog, hermes_cli/observability/
  relay_runtime, tools/environments/modal_utils)
- private names (`_x`) get no pointer: they were never API (3,792 skipped)

Verified: all 335 touched modules import under a fresh HERMES_HOME and every manifest name resolves;
the lint reports zero in-tree uses; ruff clean; targeted suites unchanged.

the asyncio.Lock added in __init__ was missing -> AttributeError in CI.
Resolve the lock through a getattr-with-create helper and add it to the
shared test helper.

kshitijk4poor 1730a2c32a fix(gateway): serialize offloaded persists so concurrent flushes land in order
Offloading the fsync to a worker thread (previous commit) lets two inbound
messages have two persists in flight. Without ordering, a slow first flush
lands after the second and the disk file loses the newer token/id/seen-id
(in-memory state stayed correct, so the loss only surfaced after restart).
The loop-side dict could also be mutated while the worker iterated it.

- weixin ContextTokenStore / discord non-conversational tracker: snapshot
the payload on the loop, hand it to the worker, serialize with a per-store
  asyncio.Lock.
- feishu dedup: same asyncio.Lock around the offloaded persist (its snapshot
was already taken under _dedup_lock; the write was not).
- Regression tests: two concurrent persists with a slow first write must
leave the union on disk. All three fail on the previous commit.

pierrenode cf6547da47 fix(gateway): offload remaining atomic_json_write calls on platform-adapter hot paths
atomic_json_write() calls os.fsync(), which blocks until the write
reaches stable storage. #83906 offloaded this in channel_directory.py,
gateway/run.py, and gateway/slash_commands.py, but the same blocking
pattern was still present on three platform-adapter message hot paths
that were never touched by that pass:

- plugins/platforms/feishu/adapter.py: _is_duplicate() persists the
dedup cache on every new inbound message (shared by both websocket
and webhook transports). The in-memory bookkeeping stays under
_dedup_lock; the fsync now runs off it via asyncio.to_thread so
concurrent callers on the ws-thread loop aren't blocked on disk I/O.

- gateway/platforms/weixin.py: ContextTokenStore.set() persists the
context-token cache on every inbound message carrying a
context_token, called from the async poll-loop handler
  _process_message.

- plugins/platforms/discord/adapter.py: mark_many() persists the
non-conversational message-id tracker, called from both send() and
send_update_prompt() when a message is tagged nonconversational.

Each fix mirrors the existing asyncio.to_thread(atomic_json_write, ...)
pattern from #83906. Regression tests assert the persist call runs on
a different thread than the event loop, mirroring
test_directory_write_runs_off_event_loop_thread in
test_channel_directory.py.

SHT 14f20d142e fix(feishu): isolate lark_oapi WS globals per profile and supervise the client thread (#73779)
lark_oapi.ws.client keeps the asyncio loop used by Client.start() in a
module-level global, and Hermes monkey-patched websockets.connect on the
shared module. Under multiplex every profile runs its own WS client on a
dedicated thread, so N threads overwrote each other's globals
(last-write-wins): clients scheduled tasks on a sibling's loop ('Future
attached to a different loop') or bound to the wrong loop and went deaf.

Install process-wide shims once: the module loop becomes a proxy that
forwards to the calling thread's registered loop, and websockets.connect
a dispatcher merging the calling thread's ping overrides. Add a per-adapter
supervisor: the executor future was only awaited by disconnect(), so a
dead WS thread left the profile silently deaf; now it is rebuilt with
capped exponential backoff while the adapter is meant to be connected.

Salvaged from PR #84165, trimmed: the legacy fallback path when the shim
cannot install was dropped (the shim only touches two attributes the
adapter already depended on); tests reduced to three. The loop-isolation
approach was first proposed by @zmlgit in #64247/#69904.

SHT 9f40d3bdd0 fix(feishu): resolve DM admission config per-profile under multiplex (#86905)
Route FEISHU_ALLOW_BOTS, FEISHU_GROUP_POLICY, FEISHU_ALLOWED_USERS,
FEISHU_BOT_*, FEISHU_APP_ID and FEISHU_REQUIRE_MENTION through
_get_scoped_secret, and snapshot FEISHU_ALLOW_ALL_USERS /
GATEWAY_ALLOW_ALL_USERS into settings.allow_all_dm at construct time so
_admit (running on the lark_oapi WS thread, no secret scope) no longer
reads the default profile's os.environ. Feishu open_ids are app-scoped,
so a secondary bot's DMs were always dm_policy_rejected against the
default profile's allow-list.

Salvaged from PR #86908 trimmed to the adapter call-site migration; the
fail-closed _get_scoped_secret / _auth_env rewrites are already on main
(2912c36aa4, agent/secret_scope.py get_secret policy).

liuhao1024 a89706e4cb fix(feishu): gate approval/update-prompt card clicks on operator allowlist, not group policy
The synchronous card-action handlers and the update-prompt resolver
authorized clicks with _allow_group_message(), which answers "may this
sender chat in this group?" — with group_policy=open it returns True
for everyone. The approval resolver already used the correct operator
gate (_is_interactive_operator_authorized), so the three code paths
disagreed: with an open group policy an out-of-allowlist click on an
update-prompt card was fully executed, and approval clicks returned a
resolved-looking card before being rejected asynchronously.

Authorize all three paths with _is_interactive_operator_authorized(),
which checks membership of admins ∪ allowed_group_users (wildcard and
the empty pairing-mode allowlist keep their existing allow semantics,
matching _admit's DM pairing default). A missing operator identity now
fails closed on the update-prompt resolver instead of skipping the
check.

teknium1 272f4e4abe feat(plugins): generalize native platform handler registration to every gateway platform
ctx.register_platform_handler(platform, factory) — the generic surface for
plugins to wire native handlers into any platform adapter at connect()
time. Factories receive (native, adapter): the platform's client/app
object (PTB Application, discord.py Bot, slack_bolt AsyncApp, Teams App,
DingTalkStreamClient, aiohttp web.Application) or None for adapters with
no separate native object.

- BasePlatformAdapter._wire_plugin_handlers(native): shared, isolated
invocation helper — a raising plugin cannot block a platform connect.
- All 27 connectable adapters call it: telegram/slack/teams/line/
  api_server/msgraph_webhook wire before their dispatch tables freeze;
the rest hook at connect success.
- register_telegram_handler and get_telegram_handler_factories retained
as thin back-compat aliases over the telegram bucket.
- Source-invariant test guarantees every adapter with connect() keeps
  calling the hook.

69k4xmdfm2-blip 21260c3281 fix(gateway): carry the profile in adapter-derived session keys (#88404)
Adapter ingress derives a session key BEFORE the runner stamps
source.profile in _make_profile_message_handler, so the namespace fell
back to the active profile and every bot in a multiplexed gateway
produced agent:main:<platform>:<chat>. A Telegram private chat reports
the user's own id as chat.id, identical for every bot, so two profiles
sharing one human collapsed onto a single lane: _pending_text_batches,
_active_sessions, the busy-session guard and _post_delivery_callbacks are
all keyed on that string. A day of production logs across two bots shows
60 flushes, none carrying the secondary profile's namespace.

set_owner_profile records credential ownership on the adapter and
_session_key_profile resolves the namespace as source.profile ->
_owner_profile -> the session store's resolver, so a secondary adapter
keys into its own namespace even before the source is stamped. Stamped
sources keep priority, so relay/connector ingress, which routes per event
rather than per credential, is unchanged. _configure_profile_adapter
installs the owner alongside the other handlers, covering startup and
reconnect.

Every candidate is type-checked as a non-blank str, and every attribute
read goes through getattr: adapters are routinely built without
BasePlatformAdapter.__init__, and a duck-typed session store returns a
truthy non-string that would otherwise be interpolated into the key as
agent:<MagicMock ...>:.

Also routes the four call sites that passed no profile at all (feishu
media batches, raft, slack _session_key_for_source, telegram photo
batches) through the same resolver.

test_multiplex_busy_input_mode's secondary-adapter busy case seeded
_active_sessions with the unstamped agent:main: key, asserting the
pre-fix collapse. It now seeds the lane the profile-owned adapter
actually derives.

A primary adapter has no owner and an unstamped source, so it resolves
exactly as before; with multiplex_profiles off the resolver returns None
and every key is byte-identical to today's.

kshitij f5784617e8 refactor: fold simplify-code review findings
- matrix/dingtalk: extract deps-only installers (ensure_matrix_deps,
ensure_dingtalk_deps) and register THOSE as ensure_deps_fn — the prior
check_*_requirements combined credential env checks with the install,
so a platform configured via PlatformConfig.extra (which is_connected
accepts) would pass enablement, reach create_adapter(), and have the
'installer' veto on env-var grounds before installing anything —
re-creating the #79812 deadlock for extra-configured setups. The
combined deps+credentials functions remain for setup/status callers.
- matrix/feishu passive probes: use the existing lazy_deps.is_available()
instead of hand-rolling 'not feature_missing(...)' (reuse finding).
- teams: module docstring no longer recommends bare system pip (the
PEP 668 trap purged everywhere else); docs troubleshooting row updated
to match the new hint text.
- wecom_callback: drop dead 'global ET, DEFUSEDXML_AVAILABLE'
(ensure_and_bind mutates the module dict directly; nothing assigns).
- tests: parametrized wiring contract for all 8 lazy-installable
platforms — ensure_deps_fn present and distinct from check_fn
(behavior contract, not identity snapshot, so renames don't churn it).

kshitij 0d32607c62 fix(gateway): split check_fn (passive probe) from ensure_deps_fn (active installer)
PlatformEntry.check_fn served three contradictory roles: adapter-creation
gate, config auto-enablement gate, and status display. Plugins had to pick
one function for all three:

- Active installer as check_fn (discord/slack/telegram/matrix/dingtalk/
feishu): every status display could pip-install SDKs as a side effect
  (the desktop 94% boot-loop class).
- Passive probe as check_fn (teams, wecom_callback): create_adapter()
returned None before connect() could lazy-install, so the SDK never
  installed (#79812 deadlock; wecom_callback's platform.wecom_callback
  LAZY_DEPS entry was dead code).

The split makes both call sites correct by construction:

- check_fn is now contractually PASSIVE (probe only, never installs).
- New optional PlatformEntry.ensure_deps_fn is the ACTIVE installer;
create_adapter() runs it exactly when check_fn is False — the platform
is enabled+configured and the gateway is about to connect it.
- Config enablement keeps a configured platform whose deps are missing
but installable; the install itself is deferred to create_adapter().
- Status surfaces (_platform_status, hermes status) read only the
passive probe and can never trigger pip.

Migrated all lazy-installable platform plugins to the split; platforms
with no optional deps (irc/ntfy/buzz/simplex/line/a2a/...) are unchanged
— no ensure_deps_fn means a False check_fn stays a hard block.
wecom_callback gains a working installer for the first time.

Builds on @xxxigm's #79812 (both commits cherry-picked with authorship
preserved), reworking the check_fn swap into the two-field split so the
Teams fix doesn't reintroduce install-on-status.

kshitijk4poor e80b7aeda1 fix(feishu): test SDK globals by None-ness, not globals() membership
The no-SDK fallback guards check '"Name" in globals()' — correct on
main where a failed module-level import leaves those names undefined,
but the deferred-import port pre-binds every SDK name to None, so the
guard was always true and the fallback paths called .builder() on None
(AttributeError) wherever lark_oapi isn't installed. Local runs passed
because lark IS installed here; CI's default env has no feishu extra.
Rewrote all 14 guards to 'is not None', which is correct under both
conditions. Verified by simulating CI with a lark-blocking meta_path
hook: 74 passed, 18 skipped (the skipUnless set), zero failures.

baau b51c4e6a78 fix(feishu): defer the lark_oapi import off the startup path
Salvage of #57657, ported onto the plugin layout (the adapter moved
from gateway/platforms/feishu.py to plugins/platforms/feishu/adapter.py
since the PR's base). lark_oapi takes seconds to import and holds the
GIL doing it; the module-level import made every gateway boot pay that
cost even with Feishu unconfigured.

- _load_lark_oapi() with double-checked locking binds the SDK globals
on first use; connect() and _standalone_send() call it via
asyncio.to_thread so the loop never blocks on the import.
- probe_bot() also calls _load_lark_oapi() (sync context) so the SDK
probe path is preserved rather than silently degrading to the HTTP
  fallback before a first connect.
- check_feishu_requirements() is install-only and no longer rebinds
globals; test_feishu.py gets a setUpModule that binds them eagerly
for tests that inject fake clients.

Includes the dedicated lazy-import test file (check-does-not-import,
connect-loads-on-worker-thread).

teknium1 1f45ff9e8a refactor(gateway): shared exec-approval/picker formatting cores in base adapter
- base._format_exec_approval(command, description, smart_denied): shared
header/fence/reason/smart-deny assembly driven by _EA_* template attrs and
  an _ea_escape() hook; base._format_choice_page(options, page, per_page):
shared pagination core returning (page_options, meta) incl. the
  ' (N-M of T)' page_info suffix; base._truncate_preview: the shared
  truncate-with-ellipsis idiom.
- telegram (HTML attrs + _html.escape hook), feishu (card markdown attrs),
  matrix (head-only; local reaction-legend tail) rewired; telegram's
provider/model keyboard pagination and slash-confirm preview use the
  shared cores. All user-visible strings byte-identical (parity-tested).
- slack/discord/teams left untouched: their formatting interleaves
platform-specific budget arithmetic (Slack 3000-char section budget
subtraction, Discord mention-prefix + dual content/embed budgets, Teams
  adaptive-card blocks) beyond template params.
- tests/gateway/test_interactive_prompt_base.py covers the cores + parity.

wuli666 1ca1deb7f6 fix(feishu): classify native voice messages as VOICE for auto-transcription
Lark's native "audio" msg_type is an in-app voice recording — uploaded
audio files arrive as "file"/"media". But _resolve_normalized_message_type
resolved the "audio" preferred type to MessageType.AUDIO, which the gateway
treats as a non-transcribed file attachment (run.py: AUDIO -> audio_file_paths,
"never STT"; VOICE -> audio_paths, "always STT"). Result: a Feishu voice
note reached the agent as an untranscribable audio attachment and was
silently ignored — the user's spoken message never became text.

Every other platform that receives native voice notes (Telegram, Discord,
Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, Matrix, WeChat, WeCom, DingTalk, QQ, BlueBubbles,
Mattermost, Yuanbao) classifies them as MessageType.VOICE. Feishu was the
only one classifying them as AUDIO. This is the follow-up to #28993, which
added native voice-note transcription for Discord + DingTalk but did not
cover Feishu.

Return MessageType.VOICE for the "audio" branch. The branch is reached only
for Lark's top-level audio msg_type (set in the normalizer; file uploads map
to "document"), so VOICE is unconditionally correct here — no risk of
auto-transcribing an uploaded music/audio file.

- plugins/platforms/feishu/adapter.py: _resolve_normalized_message_type audio
branch returns VOICE instead of resolving to AUDIO via mime.
- tests/gateway/test_feishu.py: test_extract_audio_message_downloads_and_caches
asserted the old AUDIO behavior on a fixture literally named voice.ogg —
updated to expect VOICE (the corrected classification).
- tests/gateway/test_feishu_voice_message_type.py: new focused regression
tests (audio->VOICE with and without mime; photo/document/text unaffected).

Rebased onto current main: the Feishu platform moved from the single-file
gateway/platforms/feishu.py into the plugins/platforms/feishu/ package; the
fix applies to the same _resolve_normalized_message_type logic at its new home.

Verified the new voice tests fail when the branch resolves to AUDIO and pass
with VOICE, while the photo/document/text cases are unaffected either way.

Note: classification is mock-tested here; the downstream STT pipeline is the
shared, already-proven path (#28993). End-to-end verification on a live
Feishu account would be a welcome confirmation.

Hu ae53b4ba5a fix(feishu): pass audio duration + thread routing fallback for voice bubbles
Salvaged from PR #53157 (@LLQWQ). Three changes for native Feishu voice
bubble delivery:

1. Include audio duration in the file-upload body when uploading opus
files — Feishu renders 0:00 bubbles without it. Duration is extracted
by parsing the OGG container's last granule position (pure Python,
   no ffprobe dependency).
2. Thread routing fallback: Feishu's create-message API rejects
   msg_type='audio' with receive_id_type='thread_id' (error 99992402);
retry via the reply API against the thread's last message, then fall
   back to chat_id routing.
3. (dropped) tools/tts_tool.py want_opus hunk — superseded by main's
OPUS_VOICE_PLATFORMS, which already includes feishu. The PR's stray
   scripts/release.py hunk was also dropped (frozen AUTHOR_MAP policy;
   mapping added under contributors/emails/ instead).

clear a stale home channel by re-running setup. Strip the prompt input
and call remove_env_value() on blank answers across the Discord, Slack,

with per-adapter wizard tests covering set/clear/whitespace flows.

Eugeniusz Gilewski 0cd4afeafd fix(security): guard remaining preflighted HTTP fetches
Several platform fetch paths called is_safe_url before constructing ordinary httpx clients, leaving a second DNS lookup at connection time. This preserved the rebinding window for Slack batch images, Feishu documents, Telegram URL-photo fallback, and WeCom remote media.

Route each path through create_ssrf_safe_async_client and the shared redirect guard so direct connections validate and dial vetted IPs while configured proxies remain an explicit trusted egress boundary. Add per-path regressions that change DNS from public at preflight to metadata at connect time.

The Skills Hub provenance fixture intentionally serves content over loopback. Opt that test-scoped server into private-address access so it keeps exercising the real HTTP transport without weakening production blocking.

ethernet d84e11af4d rip out brew + pip/PyPI wheel support (#68217)
Removes Homebrew and PyPI wheel/sdist as Hermes distribution paths while
preserving the supported source, Docker, and Nix workflows.

Changes:
- Removes the Homebrew formula, PyPI publish workflow, sdist manifest
  (MANIFEST.in), and wheel/sdist release-attachment logic from scripts/release.py.
- Keeps setuptools metadata and entry points required by editable installs
and Docker/Nix builds, but adds a setup.py guard that rejects wheel/sdist
builds outside a sealed Nix derivation (HERMES_NIX_BUILD=1).
- Removes pip/Homebrew install detection, PyPI update checks, the pip
self-update path, the deprecation-banner state, the postinstall subcommand,
  wheel data-directory fallbacks in agent/i18n.py and hermes_constants.py,
and the ACP Registry manifest/version-lockstep release logic.
- Adds /nix/store/ path detection so `nix run` / `nix profile install`
installs (which don't set HERMES_MANAGED) are correctly identified as
"nix" rather than falling through to "git"/"unknown".
- Retired install-method values ("pip", "homebrew") in existing
.install_method stamps (both code-scoped and home-scoped) are ignored by
the allowlist reader and fall through to "unknown" instead of resurrecting
  a retired enum value.
- Updates Nix packaging to ship bare runtime data (locales, optional-mcps)
through store symlinks and wrapper env vars instead of wheel data-files.
- Removes the ACP Registry manifest/icon and their version-lockstep tests.
- Deletes or rewrites packaging, pip-update, Homebrew, and ACP Registry
tests; adds parametrized coverage for the packaging build guard covering
BOTH sdist and wheel paths (the guards live in separate cmdclass entries
  — a passing sdist test proves nothing about the wheel path).
- Updates installation/platform documentation and related user-facing copy.
- Adjusts the supply-chain scan so deleted install-hook files do not trigger
a finding, while additions or modifications still require the existing
  ci-reviewed label gate.

Supported installation paths (unchanged):
- git installer (install.sh)
- Docker
- Nix/NixOS
- editable development installs (uv sync, uv pip install -e ., pip install -e .)

Teknium 02d8cbadec fix(approval): honor allow_session across all button adapters
Widen the allow_session tier from Matrix to every adapter the gateway
notifies: Telegram, Discord, Slack, Feishu, and Teams gate their Session
button on it; WhatsApp Cloud and qqbot accept the kwarg (no session tier

Teknium a31a31826c fix(approval): raise gateway approval timeout to 300s, honest stale-tap UX, offer Always on mixed prompts (#68597)
Three related messaging-approval fixes:

1. approvals.timeout default 60 -> 300. PR #63501 collapsed the gateway
wait onto the canonical approvals.timeout (previously
gateway_timeout=300), silently shrinking messaging approval windows
to 60s. Push-notification approvals routinely arrive later than a
minute; taps landed after the wait had already failed closed.

2. Stale-tap honesty: adapters resolved the approval AFTER rendering
   '<checkmark> Approved by <user>' (Telegram/Discord/Slack), or ignored a zero
resolve count (WhatsApp Cloud/Feishu). A tap on an expired prompt
claimed approval while the command had already been denied. All
button paths now resolve first and render 'Approval expired -
command was not run' when nothing was waiting.

3. Mixed-warning prompts (dangerous pattern + tirith finding) now offer
Always: the persistence layer already permanently allowlists the
pattern key and downgrades the tirith key to session scope, but the
UI hid Always whenever ANY tirith warning was present. Pure-tirith
prompts still withhold Always (content findings are session-max by
design), and Smart-DENY overrides remain once-only.

xxxigm 9403b4f8ba fix(feishu): keep msg_type=post consistent across every chunk of a long markdown reply (#26841)
Transplant of PR #26848 onto the plugin adapter path
(plugins/platforms/feishu/adapter.py — the original PR targeted the
since-removed gateway/platforms/feishu.py).

``send`` classifies each chunk independently, so chunk 1 of a long
markdown reply (often plain prose) went out as msg_type=text while
later chunks rendered as post — literal **bold**/## heading markers
in the Feishu client. Lock the decision at the whole-message level:
compute prefer_post once from the full formatted message and pass it
to _build_outbound_payload per chunk.

The original PR's per-chunk table exemption is intentionally dropped:
tables now route through post/md (issue #52786 cluster fix), so the
exemption would reintroduce the raw-table downgrade.

JasonFang1993 a660630986 fix(feishu): render markdown tables via post+md, not text downgrade
Resolves issue #52786 (duplicate of #23938):

The `_build_outbound_payload` shortcut forced any message containing a
pipe table to ``msg_type=text``. Feishu readers then rendered the raw
pipe-and-dash source instead of a table. Empirically current Feishu
clients render markdown tables inside ``post``-type ``md`` elements
natively, so the downgrade branch had to go.

Two changes:

1. ``_MARKDOWN_HINT_RE`` now also matches a pipe-table header+separator
pair, so a table-only message is recognised as "has markdown" and
takes the ``post`` path. All previously recognised hints (headings,
lists, code, bold/italic/strike/underline, links, blockquotes, hr)
still match — verified by the existing 205 test_feishu.py cases plus
   the new regression tests below.

2. ``_build_outbound_payload`` no longer special-cases `_MARKDOWN_TABLE_RE`
before the hint check. The hint check now routes table content to
`_build_markdown_post_payload`, which is the same path any other
   markdown structure takes.

``_MARKDOWN_TABLE_RE`` itself is retained as a module-level constant for
external callers (import-path-sensitive tests, third-party consumers of
the adapter module) and continues to work for its existing uses.

Tests
-----
New: ``tests/gateway/test_feishu_table_markdown.py`` — four regression
tests:

- ``test_markdown_table_uses_post_not_text`` — pure-table content
  reaches ``post`` (issue #52786 scenario).
- ``test_table_combined_with_other_markdown_does_not_downgrade`` —
prose + table + prose message keeps its surrounding markdown.
- ``test_existing_markdown_heading_still_uses_post`` — sanity guard:
  the heading path is unchanged.
- ``test_plain_text_without_markdown_still_uses_text`` — negative
control: pure prose still goes to ``text``.

Verification
------------
``pytest tests/gateway/test_feishu.py
tests/gateway/test_feishu_table_markdown.py`` passes 209/209 (205
existing + 4 new), three consecutive runs.

Rollback
--------
``git reset --hard 44ddc552f5e054759a6970af8997ea588a9d81c9``
restores upstream main without the new test file.

Teknium a6d9d1d2cf fix(security): widen non-ASCII compare_digest crash fix to all sibling sites
Same bug class as the salvaged #65305/#65307: hmac.compare_digest (and
secrets.compare_digest) raise TypeError when given a str containing
non-ASCII characters, and these call sites feed it raw request input.
Compare as UTF-8 bytes everywhere:

- gateway/platforms/msgraph_webhook.py: clientState from request body
- gateway/platforms/whatsapp_cloud.py: hub.verify_token query param +
X-Hub-Signature-256 header (comment claimed 'works on str' — it
  doesn't for non-ASCII)
- plugins/platforms/feishu: verification token + x-lark-signature
- plugins/platforms/raft: bridge token header
- plugins/platforms/line: X-Line-Signature
- plugins/platforms/sms: X-Twilio-Signature
- tools/code_execution_tool.py: sandbox RPC token (both loops)

Regression tests for the two gateway-core sites (msgraph, whatsapp).

Teknium 647520f83e fix(gateway): gate profile routing on multiplex_profiles + widen batch-key routing to all adapters
Follow-ups on the salvaged #20096 profile-routing feature:

- _profile_name_for_source now returns None unless gateway.multiplex_profiles
is on. Routing stamps source.profile, which namespaces session/batch keys,
but the profile-scoped agent run only activates under multiplexing — without
the gate, configured routes with multiplexing off split batch/session keys
into agent:<profile> while the agent still ran from agent:main.
- Widen the profile-aware _text_batch_key fix from Discord to every adapter
that builds batch keys via build_session_key (telegram, whatsapp, matrix,
feishu, wecom, weixin) — routing is platform-generic, so the batch-key
  namespace fix must be too.
- Downgrade the no-route-matched log from INFO to DEBUG (fired on every
  unrouted inbound message).
- GatewayConfig.to_dict(): serialize profile_routes as plain dicts
  (ProfileRoute dataclasses are not JSON-safe).
- Docs: correct the 'independent of multiplexing' claim in
docs/profile-routing.md (routing requires multiplexing), fix the
platform-only specificity row (0, not 1), and document profile_routes in
  website/docs/user-guide/multi-profile-gateways.md.
- Tests: pin the multiplex gate (routes ignored when off, active when on,
  build_source end-to-end stays in agent:main when off).
