kshitijk4poor ab2f4602de refactor: MessageEvent to gateway/platforms/event.py; ElicitationHandler takes a call_context thunk
Breaks the two import cycles that forced Protocol stand-ins in the F821 sweep, so the two
sites now name the real types.

gateway/platforms/event.py (new leaf): MessageType, ProcessingOutcome, MessageEvent moved
out of base.py verbatim. Their only dependency is gateway.session.SessionSource; base.py
imported helpers.py at module level, so helpers could not name MessageEvent. Now
TextBatchAggregator is typed by the real MessageEvent. 249 importers repointed
(`from gateway.platforms.base import` -> `.event`, preserving each import's layout);
gateway.platforms.__init__ re-exports from .event. The three revert-scheduled PLUGIN-COMPAT
pointers that named these symbols (gateway.slash_commands → MessageType, dingtalk → MessageType,
photon → ProcessingOutcome) and their COMPAT_MANIFEST rows now target gateway.platforms.event.
Docs updated: ADDING_A_PLATFORM.md, adding-platform-adapters.md (en + zh-Hans).

tools/mcp_tool_sampling.py: ElicitationHandler no longer holds a back-reference to its
MCPServerTask (mcp_tool imports sampling, so the task type cannot be named there). It only
ever read owner._pending_call_context, so it takes `call_context: Callable[[], Context | None]`
and MCPServerTask passes `lambda: self._pending_call_context`. The consent call is one
`functools.partial`, run directly or inside the captured Context.

ty on the 11 touched production files vs origin/main: 0 new diagnostics, 14 resolved.
(The one `source: SessionSource = None` diagnostic moves with the class; typing it Optional
exposes ~60 unguarded call sites — separate follow-up.)

Tests: tests/gateway + tests/plugins + tests/tools + touched files, 18,235 passed; the 31
failures reproduce identically on origin/main (macOS /private/tmp, systemd socket,
long-path fixtures, live-service tests).

Teknium 2031c819fe simplify(compat): gateway — re-land 92d0bd0d73 (reverted by stale-index commit b818085298)
Re-applies the gateway compat removal byte-for-byte; see 92d0bd0d73 for the
full inventory (30 re-exports/aliases + 2 shim modules dropped, 3 shim-only
names re-removed, 24 callers + 34 test files repointed). No new changes.

Teknium b818085298 simplify(compat): doctor/status — drop 13 re-exports + the doctor_* globals() facade (97 names), repoint 6 callers / 13 tests 2026-09-03 13:10:52 -07:00
Teknium 92d0bd0d73 simplify(compat): gateway — drop 30 re-exports/aliases + 2 shim modules, re-remove 3 shim-only names, repoint 24 callers + 34 test files
Per COMPAT_REMOVAL.md (internal import paths are not a stable API):

Re-exports removed
- gateway/run.py: atomic_json_write, load_dotenv, resolve_delivery_transport,
  TurnRunner, merge_pending_message_event, _arm_loop_floor_timer,
  start_loop_liveness_watchdog, DEFAULT_GATEWAY_POST_INTERRUPT_GRACE_TIMEOUT,
  _UNSET (9) — run_* mixins and tests now import from the defining module
  (gateway.delivery / gateway.run_turn_runner / gateway.platforms.base /
  gateway.shutdown_watchdog / gateway.restart / utils).
- gateway/session.py: SessionResetPolicy, normalize_whatsapp_identifier,
  TranscriptReadError, auto_continue_freshness_window (+ "_now & co." noqa
  facade) — gateway/__init__ takes SessionResetPolicy from .config; callers
  take TranscriptReadError from gateway.session_transcript.
- gateway/kanban_watchers.py: _wake_scope_id + "tests import via origin" noqa
  facade; tests import from kanban_watchers_common / _notifier.
- gateway/slash_commands.py: _model_switch_skew_guard, HISTORY_UNREADABLE.
- gateway/stream_consumer.py: escape_code_fences_for_display.
- gateway/platforms/api_server.py: "re-exported" RunIdempotencyStore comment;
  tui_gateway + tests import gateway.platforms.api_server_run_idempotency.
- gateway/platforms/__init__.py: PEP 562 __getattr__/__dir__ lazy QQAdapter /
  YuanbaoAdapter facade (no in-tree importer).
- gateway/startup_watchdog.py: whole re-export shim module deleted; the three
  in-tree callers import hermes_startup_watchdog directly.

Aliases removed
- gateway/platforms/signal.py: SignalAdapter._markdown_to_signal.
- gateway/shutdown_forensics.py: _parse_systemd_duration_to_us.
- gateway/platforms/yuanbao.py: OutboundManager.start_slow_notifier /
  cancel_slow_notifier / get_chat_lock / _chat_locks / CHAT_DICT_MAX_SIZE
  delegates; module-level get_active_adapter / send_yuanbao_direct;
  MarkdownProcessor has_unclosed_fence / ends_with_table_row /
  split_at_paragraph_boundary static pass-throughs (chunk_markdown_text stays —
  it carries yuanbao's chunking policy). tools/send_message_senders +
  tools/yuanbao_tools call YuanbaoAdapter.get_active() / sender.send_direct().

Shim-only names re-removed (earlier review-fix round 96c104c903)
- CapabilityDescriptor.from_platform_entry (+ tests/gateway/relay/test_descriptor_from_entry.py)
- SessionTurnLeaseRegistry.__len__ (+ its test)
- is_relay_media_url KEPT: download() uses it, real internal helper.

Tests that pinned a shim (startup_watchdog re-export identity, api_server
RunIdempotencyStore identity, signal wrapper parity) are dropped; tests that
pinned live behavior are repointed at the implementation.

Note: the gateway/run.py hunk of this change was swept into 00a3cfe5c9 by a
concurrent commit on the shared worktree; this commit carries the rest.

Verified in an isolated worktree (HEAD + this change only): ruff clean,
import-smoke of all 33 touched modules under a fresh HERMES_HOME,
605 passed / 1 skipped across the 39 covering test files.

Teknium 39975613b1 test: prune wave 2 + speed fixes — 28,106 → 19,757 test functions, suite wall 315s → 294s
Second, deeper pass over tools/gateway/hermes_cli plus first pass over
the trees wave 1 missed (acp, acp_adapter, skills, computer_use, docker,
dashboard, conformance, monitoring, secret_sources, hermes_state,
providers). Same rubric as wave 1 (AGENTS.md test policy); security,
alternation/caching invariants, issue-number regressions, and E2E kept.

Real test-quality fixes found and rooted out along the way:
- tests/tools/test_command_guards.py made real auxiliary-LLM HTTPS calls
  (DEFAULT_CONFIG smart-approval leaked in) — pinned approval
  mode=manual via autouse fixture: 17.4s → 0.4s.
- test_model_switch_custom_providers.py / test_user_providers_model_switch.py
  silently probed live provider catalogs (~2s/test) — stubbed
  cached_provider_model_ids/provider_model_ids/fetch_api_models.
- test_telegram_noise_filter.py: 15-platform copy-paste matrix over
  shared gateway.run logic → 3 representative platforms (55s → 3.9s).
- test_gateway_shutdown.py: stop()'s 5s interrupt-deadline loop spun on
  MagicMock agents — interrupt.side_effect now clears _running_agents
  (22s → 1.0s).
- test_gateway_inactivity_timeout.py poll-harness timings shrunk 3-5x
  (24s → 1.1s); test_mcp_stability.py backoff/SIGTERM-grace sleeps
  patched (15.4s → 2.5s); test_async_delegation.py negative-drain wait
  5s → 0.5s.
- test_telegram_init_deadline.py: loop-block margin restored to 1.0s
  with rationale comment — the watchdog-dump assertion needs the loop
  blocked well past deadline+grace under parallel load (flaked once in
  the 40-worker verification run at a 0.2s margin).

Verification: full hermetic suite via scripts/run_tests.sh —
2,438 files, 21,718 tests passed, 0 failed, 293.9s wall.
Suite totals vs original baseline: 46,820 → 19,757 test functions
(−57.8%), wall 583.5s → 293.9s (−50%), subprocess CPU 13,564s → 11,623s.

Teknium 7550c594ce feat(reasoning): add max and ultra effort levels (#62650) 2026-07-12 00:26:49 -07:00
Teknium 95d53c3bcb feat(cli): /reasoning full — show complete thinking, not 10-line clamp (#50499)
* feat(cli): /reasoning full to show complete thinking, not 10-line clamp

The post-response Reasoning recap box hard-clamped long thinking to the
first 10 lines, so there was no way to see the full reasoning trace after
a turn (live streaming already shows it in full). Add display.reasoning_full
(default off) plus /reasoning full|clamp to toggle it at runtime; the clamp
truncation note now points at the command. Addresses repeated user requests
to show all thinking tokens.

* test(gateway): de-snapshot /reasoning help assertion

The test froze the exact args-hint literal '/reasoning [level|show|hide]',
which the new full/clamp args change to '[level|show|hide|full|clamp]'.
Convert to an invariant: assert /reasoning is in help and carries its core
args, not the exact hint string.

* feat(tui): /reasoning full|clamp parity in tui_gateway

The classic-CLI reasoning_full toggle had no TUI equivalent — typing
/reasoning full in the TUI fell through to parse_reasoning_effort and
errored. The TUI renders thinking as an expand/collapse section (no fixed
10-line recap), so map full -> sections.thinking=expanded (raw, uncapped
via thinkingPreview mode='full') and clamp -> collapsed, persisting
display.reasoning_full for cross-surface config consistency.

Teknium 27ec74c68a fix: coerce show_reasoning and guard_agent_created config bools
Widens #16528 to two sibling sites that had the same quoted-boolean
bug: a YAML string "false" (or "0", "no", "off") silently evaluated
truthy under bool() / if-check.

- gateway/run.py _load_show_reasoning: is_truthy_value wrap
- tools/skill_manager_tool.py _guard_agent_created_enabled: is_truthy_value wrap
- regression tests for both

Iris Jin 25ba6a4a74 fix(gateway): make reasoning session-scoped by default 2026-04-25 18:01:31 -07:00
Teknium 30ea423ce8 fix: unify reasoning_effort to config.yaml only, remove HERMES_REASONING_EFFORT env var
Gateway and cron had inconsistent reasoning_effort resolution:
- CLI: config.yaml only (correct)
- Gateway: config.yaml first, env var fallback
- Cron: env var first, config.yaml fallback

All three now read exclusively from agent.reasoning_effort in config.yaml.
Removed HERMES_REASONING_EFFORT env var support entirely — .env is for
secrets only, not behavioral config.

Teknium 62f8aa9b03 fix: MCP toolset resolution for runtime and config (#3252)
Gateway sessions had their own inline toolset resolution that only read
platform_toolsets from config, which never includes MCP server names.
MCP tools were discovered and registered but invisible to the model.

- Replace duplicated gateway toolset resolution in _run_agent() and
  _run_background_task() with calls to the shared _get_platform_tools()
- Extend _get_platform_tools() to include globally enabled MCP servers
  at runtime (include_default_mcp_servers=True), while config-editing
  flows use include_default_mcp_servers=False to avoid persisting
  implicit MCP defaults into platform_toolsets
- Add homeassistant to PLATFORMS dict (was missing, caused KeyError)
- Fix CLI entry point to use _get_platform_tools() as well, so MCP
  tools are visible in CLI mode too
- Remove redundant platform_key reassignment in _run_background_task

Verne 52ba940c9b feat(gateway): add reasoning hot reload
Add a /reasoning command across gateway adapters so users can
inspect or change reasoning effort without editing config by hand.

Reload reasoning settings from config.yaml before each agent run,
including background tasks, so the next message picks up the new
value consistently.
