Teknium ac33da3c73 fix(tui): hide the composer while the password-manager unlock card is open
Live Ink TUI repro: with the unlock card mounted, keystrokes reached BOTH the
masked prompt and the still-focused composer, so the master password echoed
in clear text in the composer row and was queued as a message. `$isBlocked`
(which unmounts the composer for approval/sudo/secret cards) did not list the
new overlay; the pet's awaiting-input predicate had the same gap. After the
fix the raw PTY stream no longer contains the typed password.

Also tightens the classic-CLI panel copy to fit an 80-column box.

Teknium e9f7d44f3f fix(vault): carry the unlock prompt onto tool worker threads; honour binary_path in install checks
Live Desktop repro: the fixture model called browser_vault_unlock and got
unlock_unavailable although the renderer was interactive. tool_executor runs
handlers on a propagated worker thread; thread_context only copied the
approval and sudo thread-local callbacks, so the unlock prompt registered by
_wire_callbacks was invisible there and can_prompt_here() said nobody could
answer. The callback table in thread_context now lists every per-thread
prompt (approval, sudo, vault unlock) so a new one cannot silently drop off
worker threads again. After the fix the same turn shows the masked card and
completes.

vault.sources / `hermes vault sources` report a manager as installed when
its configured binary_path exists, not only when it is on PATH.

Teknium 92e0de0ac4 feat(vault): Desktop, TUI and CLI surfaces for password-manager unlock
Desktop
- Settings → Credential Vault gains a "Password managers" section: per-manager
toggle (disabled with a hint when the CLI isn't installed), Locked/Unlocked
pill, Unlock (masked master-password dialog → vault.unlock) and Lock.
Items from a manager show a source badge instead of a delete button.
- Mid-turn vault.unlock.request renders a masked card in the chat (same
contract as the secret/sudo cards: dismiss = keep locked, late answers
tolerated, blocks the composer, badges background sessions).
- i18n parity en/ar/ja/zh/zh-hant.

Ink TUI (hermes --tui): vault.unlock.request/expire overlay via MaskedPrompt;
Esc keeps the manager locked.

CLI: `hermes vault sources [--enable|--disable NAME]`; `hermes vault list`
shows the source column and names enabled-but-locked managers.

Docs: credential-vault.md covers managers, per-session unlock, and the
headless (cron/webhook/API/-q) no-prompt posture.

Teknium 8e7e9be217 feat(vault): sign in with 1Password or Bitwarden logins, unlocked per session
The browser vault now draws from three login sources behind one handle
shape: the local encrypted vault (vault_…), 1Password Login items (op:…)
and Bitwarden Password Manager logins (bw:…). browser_vault_list aggregates
metadata across them; browser_vault_fill routes by prefix and resolves the
password at fill time only, through the manager CLI.

External managers are locked until the user unlocks them for the current
session. The new browser_vault_unlock tool (and the fill path, implicitly)
asks the surface to show a masked master-password prompt — CLI panel
(reuses the sudo panel state), TUI/Desktop via a vault.unlock.request
blocking card. The password goes to `op signin --raw` / `bw unlock --raw`
on stdin, never argv or env; only the session token is kept, in memory,
with a 30-minute idle TTL, cleared on session close or `vault.lock`.

Headless contexts (cron, webhook, api_server, -q) can never prompt: the
manager is reported as locked with unlock=unavailable_in_this_session and
fill refuses — the same posture approvals take where nobody can answer.

Config: vault.onepassword / vault.bitwarden {enabled, binary_path, …};
a 1Password service-account token skips the prompt for headless use.
RPC: vault.sources, vault.source.set, vault.unlock, vault.lock for Settings.

Tests (2, real subprocess against a fake bw; each proven red by sabotage):
headless never prompts or spawns; unlock feeds stdin only, token never
enters os.environ, fill routes by prefix and the password only reaches the
fill script.

Teknium cde0ad0edd feat: agent signs into sites from an encrypted local vault (CLI, browser fill, Desktop Settings)
Consolidated re-apply of #96988 onto current main. Ported from
Merit-Systems/OpenInstinct (MIT) opaque-handle autofill design: the model
sees vault handles + login metadata, the password is resolved and filled
server-side over the supervised CDP socket, and filled values are scrubbed
from every browser tool result by an unconditional redaction registry.

Rebase adaptations to the Sep-2026 facade/sibling layout:
- toolsets: one _HERMES_CORE_TOOLS entry (the browser toolset derives from it)
- hermes_cli/main.py: vault parser registered via the subcommand owner table
- file_safety: vault/ joins the _READ_DENIED_DIRS credential-dir table
- redact: registry scrub runs before the redact_secrets early-return
- browser_vault_tool: _run_browser_command now lives in browser_tool_session

Erosika 55b3ea0b11 fix(gateway): count each bot message once in the loop guard and consume the author variable
The Telegram adapter asks the authorization check before dispatch, the ingress gate asks it
again, and the busy path asks a third time. Each call counted one loop-guard event, so a
Telegram bot tripped the budget after a third of the configured messages. The verdict now only
refuses a chat that is cooling down. The ingress gate counts an admitted bot message once.

`parse_turn_author` treats only booleans, integers and the strings true/1/yes as a bot flag,
and returns None for an author with neither id nor name. Names keep format characters and
non-breaking spaces so emoji sequences survive. The quiet one-shot pops HERMES_TURN_AUTHOR
before the turn so tool subprocesses do not inherit it. `max_events` must be a whole positive
number. Issue numbers move out of code comments.

Erosika 5bf69e963c fix(gateway): loop guard judges the final authz verdict and reads config.yaml
#91483 added the guard inside the ALLOW_BOTS block. on today's authz layout
an admitted bot returns from an earlier rule before that block runs, so the
guard never tripped (its own ping-pong test passes turn 21 on this tree).

_is_user_authorized now computes the allowlist verdict first and runs every
admitted bot-authored message through the guard, so bots admitted by a chat
allowlist, allow-all, pairing or delegation are metered too. the budget stays
per conversation. settings move from HERMES_BOT_LOOP_* environment variables
to config.yaml gateway.bot_loop_guard (defaults added to config_defaults),
re-read on every call. an unauthorized bot dm no longer gets a pairing code,
so a cooldown produces no outbound traffic. tests rebuilt against real
SessionSource objects.

Erosika 0ac631b6c0 feat(api): accept a turn author on session chat and runs; peer dm forwards it
POST /api/sessions/{id}/chat, /chat/stream and /v1/runs take an optional
"author" object. absent or null keeps today's behavior; a non-object is a 400
invalid_author. the value reaches run_conversation as turn_author and nothing
else: it is a claim by an API-key holder and grants no capability.

hermes peer dm and peer run add the author to the request body when the
message_agent runner launched them with HERMES_TURN_AUTHOR set, so a
cross-machine dm is attributed the same way a local one is.

Teknium 073c57872a feat(models): DeepSeek V4.1 Flash on the Nous Portal and OpenRouter pickers
Add deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash to OPENROUTER_MODELS (Nous list derives from it),
regenerate the docs manifest, and give the slug its own 1M context entry and 600s
reasoning-stale floor — the longest-key-first scan otherwise lands the new slug on
the 128K `deepseek` catch-all and no floor. Live probed on both routes: echoed
model matches, usage.cost billed.
2026-09-10 09:22:31 -07:00
Teknium ee35a4624f fix(routing): address review — session runtime decides, quarantine continues the chain, unclassified ids break ownership
Three defects found in review of the first head (@ehz0ah):

* The mid-request hop read the PERSISTED provider from disk. A live
  `/model xai-oauth` session over `model.provider: auto` therefore still
reached the discovery chain and billed Nous. _try_payment_fallback now
takes the route's main_runtime snapshot; disk is the fallback only when
  no session runtime exists.

* After a configured fallback was quarantined mid-request (401, refresh
failed), the second pass went straight to the discovery chain, which
the new gate refuses — so later CONFIGURED entries never ran and the
original error was re-raised. The second pass now re-walks the task
chain and main chain (the quarantined entry is unhealthy and skipped)
  before discovery.

* current_provider_owns_vendor dropped ids detect_vendor could not
  classify, so Bedrock's 15-id catalog (14 unclassified `us.anthropic…`)
looked exclusively DeepSeek and `/model deepseek-v4-pro` stuck on
Bedrock. An unclassified id now counts as evidence of a multi-vendor
catalog: ownership requires every id to classify to the one vendor.

Teknium 9a3a15c87a fix(models): a vendor's own id on its first-party provider never re-routes
215fd0ecb9 made the current provider's live catalog outrank static
guesses, but a live catalog that could not be fetched (Codex outage, cold
cache) looked identical to "not served", so `/model gpt-6-astra` on
openai-codex still walked to OpenRouter (which relists every vendor)
whenever an OpenRouter key existed. Same shape for grok-* on xai-oauth
and claude-* on anthropic.

detect_provider_for_model now treats a vendor id typed on that vendor's
single-vendor first-party provider as a selection: stay, let the vendor
accept or reject it (the existing "not found in listing" note still
fires). Cross-vendor remaps (claude id on Codex -> keyed OpenRouter) and
aggregator / custom / multi-vendor reseller sessions are unchanged.

Teknium 6d89c1afde feat(plugins): pin a plugin to a commit from Desktop, and show pins in every list
Only the CLI could install a plugin at an exact commit (`--ref <sha>`); the
Desktop "Install from Git" dialog, the TUI gateway `plugins.manage install`
method and the dashboard `/agent-plugins/install` endpoint all called
`_install_plugin_core` without a ref, so a team that wanted everyone on the
same private-plugin commit had to leave the app for a terminal.

- `dashboard_install_plugin(ref=)` threads the pin to `_install_plugin_core`;
the 40-hex validation and HEAD verification are unchanged. The gateway
method and dashboard body accept `ref`.
- Desktop dialog gains an optional "Pin to commit" field (custom sources only,
client-side 40-hex check disables Install on anything shorter).
- `plugins.manage list` rows carry `pinned_sha`; the Desktop plugins tab shows
  a `pinned @ <sha8>` badge and `hermes plugins list` prints `git pinned@<sha8>`
in Source, so a team can eyeball that everyone runs the same commit.

Teknium 6964eebd35 fix(deepseek): pass custom model ids through instead of rewriting them
The deepseek provider allow-listed ids by shape (two canonicals plus a
^deepseek-v<N> regex) and rewrote everything else to deepseek-flash. That
swallowed the vendor's own deepseek-flash the day it shipped (#107206) and
would do the same to any future id without a v<N> marker, while still
letting shape-matching guesses such as deepseek-v4.1-flash through to a 400.

Only the two ids DeepSeek actually retired (deepseek-chat, deepseek-reasoner)
are remapped now; every other id the user typed reaches the wire as typed and
the API's own error names the valid models.

Teknium 696d078959 fix(deepseek): only fold deepseek-* spellings onto deepseek-flash
Names outside the family (qwen3.8-max typed on the DeepSeek provider) now
pass through so the validator rejects them, instead of silently running
Flash under a different label.

Teknium 70ed17e3d8 fix(cli): same-provider /model on a session-only custom endpoint stays on it (#74143)
A bare `custom`/`local` session whose base_url is not the trusted config
`model.base_url` re-resolved credentials from config on a same-provider
switch and fell through to the OpenRouter default: the next turn hit
openrouter.ai with an empty (or the custom) key. Keep the session endpoint
and key when resolution comes back empty or on OpenRouter; a config-backed
custom URL still wins so key/endpoint rotation is not pinned to a stale
session.

Diagnosed by fangliquanflq in #74143 / #71693; this is the minimal form of
that fix at the same-provider credential step.
2026-09-10 03:58:37 -07:00
Teknium 2466684db5 fix(models): never auto-switch to a provider the user has no credentials for
/model <name> on provider A, where the name is only known to provider B
(static catalog or OpenRouter), switched the session to B even when B had
no key: an immediate 401 for most vendors, and for OpenRouter — whose
runtime resolves with an EMPTY key instead of raising — a silent switch
onto a metered aggregator. The dashboard's flat Model field had two more
copies of the same guess ("vendor/model on a native provider" → openrouter).

detect_provider_for_model() now walks its ladder as candidates and skips any
target without credentials (env/.env key, auth-store login, or a usable
credential pool entry). Exceptions: the user NAMED the provider (/model nous)
or there is no current provider yet ("auto") — then the guess is handed back
so the credential step fails loudly instead of silently ignoring input. A
vendor/ prefix naming a provider declared in `providers:` is a selection, not
a guess, and always routes. The dashboard fallbacks apply the same gate.

Tests that pinned "switch to OpenRouter/vendor with no key" now grant the
credential they assumed; two new invariants cover the gate.

Victor Kyriazakos 22356075f1 fix(cron): make user-written bare-platform home targets continuable
A managed cron with `deliver: "slack"` (no captured origin) delivers to the
Slack home channel, but the brief was never mirrored into that session and
the in_channel seed never fired: bare-platform targets resolved with no
`_resolved_from` provenance, so `_target_mirror_eligible` treated them like
`all` broadcast expansions.

- `_resolve_delivery_targets` derives `from_broadcast` from the raw token
and passes it to `_resolve_single_delivery_target`; a user-written bare
platform token is tagged `_resolved_from: "home"`, `all` expansions stay
  untagged (fan-out is never continuable).
- `_target_mirror_eligible`: `home` eligible under the same flags as
  `origin_fallback` (per-job attach_to_session wins, else cron.mirror_delivery).
- `_MIRROR_PROVENANCE_RANK`: `home` == `origin_fallback` so token order
  through dedup cannot strip eligibility.
- Docs, tool schema text, cron/gateway AGENTS.md updated; existing
exact-dict pins carry the new key.

Squashed from PR #101819 (commits 5fe612c9, 65e36926, 10e0af1d, f2cc4639):
they predate the cron/scheduler.py -> scheduler_delivery.py split and do
not cherry-pick individually onto current main.

Teknium 7f487df266 fix(gateway): hermes gateway restart without a service unit no longer bails on linger
The linger hint explains a FAILED systemd unit restart. It ran unconditionally,
so on any Linux login session with linger off and no unit installed the
command printed the hint and exited 0 without stopping or starting anything.
The dashboard/Desktop "Restart gateway" action spawns exactly this command and
polls its exit code, so it reported success while the gateway never came back
with the newly saved credentials. Gate the hint on an installed systemd unit;
the no-unit path falls through to the detached restart as intended.
2026-09-10 02:48:21 -07:00
Teknium e1f1c8a935 fix(dashboard): stopped gateway no longer reports a dead process's platform error
gateway_state.json preserves per-platform entries across restarts, so a gateway
that once ran without TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN and then stopped kept reporting
'fatal / No bot token configured' on the Channels/Messaging pages even after the
user saved a token — the Desktop showed 'Saved' on both fields next to the error.
Only a live gateway's verdict describes current config; when no gateway is running
the platform reads gateway_stopped with no error.

Teknium aeecb110f8 fix(deepseek): deepseek-flash is the canonical Flash id; retired names fold onto it
DeepSeek retired deepseek-v4-flash on 2026-09-10 (V4.1-Flash release); the API's
model name is now `deepseek-flash` and /v1/models lists only it. Hermes still
folded every non-V-series name onto deepseek-v4-flash, so `/model deepseek-flash`
on the DeepSeek provider was rewritten, then the validator "auto-corrected" it
back against the live listing: "Auto-corrected deepseek-v4-flash -> deepseek-flash"
on every switch.

Retired aliases (deepseek-chat / -reasoner and other fuzzy names) now fold onto
deepseek-flash; the curated catalog, profile fallback list, aux default, goal-judge
hint and pricing snapshot (2026-09-10 off-peak USD) follow the docs. Dated
deepseek-v4-* ids still pass through untouched.

Builds on YipTszkwan's #107126 (earliest fix in the cluster).

Teknium 215fd0ecb9 fix(models): a model the current provider serves never re-routes to OpenRouter
detect_provider_for_model() walked static catalogs and then the OpenRouter
catalog. Providers whose live catalog outruns the static list (Codex
early-access ids, Nous Portal slugs, Ollama Cloud) had nothing to stop the
ladder, so `/model gpt-6-astra` from a Codex session, or `/model glm-5.3-flash`
from a Nous-sub-only session, silently rebuilt the agent on metered OpenRouter
(or on a vendor the user has no key for).

The current provider's disk-cached live catalog (cached_provider_model_ids, 1h
TTL + SWR) is now consulted first: an exact or bare-name hit stays put and
resolves to the provider's own spelling. Fixes the whole class at the shared
choke point, covering /model, ACP, oneshot and the dashboard.

Refs #97487 (sj-unit72 diagnosed the ollama-cloud instance of this).

YipTszkwan 8435a3ae00 fix(deepseek): recognise the version-less deepseek-flash model id
DeepSeek's 2026-09 Flash refresh introduced a version-less canonical id:
GET /v1/models now returns `deepseek-flash` (alongside `deepseek-v4-pro`), the
API accepts it directly, and the older `deepseek-v4-flash` is server-side
aliased onto it. Every DeepSeek model-id gate in Hermes keys off the
`deepseek-v<N>` prefix, so the new id silently missed all four:

* DeepSeekProfile.build_api_kwargs_extras classified it as non-thinking and
omitted `extra_body.thinking`. The server then defaults to thinking-on, so
the user's thinking toggle and `reasoning_effort` were quietly ignored.
* `_normalize_for_deepseek` folded it onto `deepseek-v4-flash` (it misses the
V-series regex), so the id a user picked never reached the wire and the
config stored a different model than the picker advertised.
* `DEFAULT_CONTEXT_LENGTHS` fell through to the 128K `deepseek` catch-all
instead of the real 1M window, capping the model at an eighth of its
  context before compaction kicked in.
* `_REASONING_STALE_TIMEOUT_FLOORS` had no entry, leaving the stale-stream
detector at its 180s default instead of the 600s reasoning-model floor.

Verified live against api.deepseek.com: `deepseek-flash` answers 200 with
`model: deepseek-flash`, accepts image input (the refresh folds vision into
the Flash model), and the in-between id `deepseek-v4.1-flash` is rejected
with "The supported API model names are deepseek-flash, deepseek-v4-pro".

Adds the id to all four gates plus regression coverage for each site.

Teknium 8068c09432 fix(desktop): verify the Windows update receipt against the checkout, not cwd
The Windows hand-off script runs from the PRE-update checkout, spawned from
HERMES_HOME by the Desktop. e7eaff68 shipped the post-update verify step
without the cwd pin that landed a day later, so verify_windows_desktop_update(Path.cwd())
looked for apps/desktop/release under ~/.hermes and reported a healthy,
fully updated install as "The updated Desktop executable is missing" (exit 8,
error dialog, app relaunched fine).

Derive the root from the imported hermes_cli package instead; the ps1 no
longer passes a cwd. The cwd pin stays as belt for the other child steps.

Teknium 4baf4269ff fix(metadata): GLM context windows from the live catalog; hyphenated slugs, entry-level overrides, aux inherits main pin
Every GLM slug that missed a DEFAULT_CONTEXT_LENGTHS key fell to the "glm" 202,752 catch-all, so
compression fired at ~20% of the real window and the aux feasibility check auto-lowered the session
threshold to that number (the 202,752 in the Coatue compression report).

- Catalog: GLM entries from Nous + OpenRouter /v1/models (2026-09-09): 5.3 / 5.3-flash 1,310,720
  (:batch/:US 1,048,576), 5.2 1,048,576, 5 / 5.1 / 4.7 / 4.6 204,800, *-turbo / 4.7-flash 202,752.
- _catalog_key_matches: version separators normalised on both sides so relay slugs like z-ai-glm-5-3
hit glm-5.3 (#97398; approach from PR #97412 by @shellybotmoyer, re-implemented on current main).
- get_custom_provider_context_length: entry-level custom_providers[].context_length backs every model the
entry serves when no per-model override exists, so /model switch stops dropping it (#98387; from
  PR #98396 by @liuhao1024, re-implemented on the config_providers sibling).
- check_compression_model_feasibility: when aux compression is the main model on the main route, reuse the
main model's resolved window instead of re-resolving without its pin (#89500 mechanism 2, #45519).

Closes #97398, #98387, #89500, #87825, #97595, #97820 (suffix strip already on main; catalog values now match).

Teknium d783c312a7 fix(plugins): run gh auth token under the noninteractive git env
The MCP-catalog noninteractive contract test asserts every subprocess spawned during a git
install carries GIT_TERMINAL_PROMPT=0 and a closed stdin; the gh token probe was spawned with
the inherited env. Use the same hardened env (plus GH_PROMPT_DISABLED) so gh cannot open a
browser/device flow either, and let the contract accept a stdin fed by input= (credential fill
writes its request and closes).

Teknium 9886f6e53b feat(plugins): install plugins from private git repos using the user's stored credentials
`hermes plugins install owner/private-repo` failed for every private repository
even when the same user could `git clone` it from their shell: the hardened
`noninteractive_git_env` disables credential helpers, askpass and global config
(so a hostile repo can't make our plumbing prompt or hang), which also blocks
the user's own stored credential. The result was "could not read Username" or a
60s hang on a GUI askpass, with no hint about how to authenticate.

New `hermes_cli/git_credentials.py` resolves a credential up front from sources
the user already owns — GITHUB_TOKEN/GH_TOKEN (profile-scoped), `gh auth token`,
then `git credential fill` against their configured helpers with prompting
disabled (any host) — and hands it to git as a one-shot
`http.<origin>/.extraheader` via the GIT_CONFIG_* env block. Nothing lands in
the URL, `.git/config` or install metadata. The same path covers
`plugins update`, catalog MCP git installs and profile-distribution staging,
which share the same hardened env and the same failure.

A private-repo clone with no credential now fails fast with an actionable hint.

Austin Pickett f6ddd89692 fix(dashboard-auth): offer every configured provider in native sign-in (#107018)
Desktop opens /auth/native/authorize without naming a provider. The empty-provider
auto-select filtered password providers out of the candidate set, so a deployment
with one OAuth provider plus username/password went straight to OAuth and never
offered the password option — even though native sign-in brokers password
providers through /login since 56f1afc834. The filter's rationale ("a password
provider can never be the target of the native flow", ed5e17f4b8) predates that
change.

Render a provider chooser when more than one interactive session provider is
registered. Each link re-enters the same validated authorize route with an
explicit provider, so the choice never leaves the native PKCE flow. A single
provider still auto-selects, and the chooser is emitted before any broker state
is allocated or any cookie set.

The desktop only shell-opens the authorize URL and never parses its response
(apps/desktop/electron/native-oauth-login.ts), so the 200 chooser page is safe on
existing desktop builds.

Supersedes #101713, #76941.

Teknium b88e6776f4 fix(cli): hold agent status lines until the streamed response box closes
Subagent completion notices ("✓ [set 7 · 2/2] … (2175.14s)"), background
process notices and spinner print_above text are emitted from worker threads
through agent._print_fn. In the interactive CLI that was bound straight to
_cprint, so a notice landing while a reply streamed was printed between two
paragraphs inside the response box.

_print_fn is now HermesCLI._agent_status_print: while a response or reasoning
box is open the line is parked in _held_status_lines and released right after
the box footer; outside a box it prints immediately as before. Gateway, ACP
and TUI printers are untouched (they never bound _cprint).

Siddharth Balyan b4d04eb8fd Connector tools (Gmail, Linear, Notion, ...) are searchable and callable through tool_search for signed-in Nous users (#106842)
* feat: add session-scoped connector access for onboarding

* fix(connectors): availability is the config flag AND the portal entitlement — no free-tier leg

The port carried a third availability leg from hermes-magic: a stored guest
(free-tier) identity short-circuits the managed-tool entitlement check. That
leg reads hermes_cli.anon_auth, which does not exist on hermes-agent main, so
connectors_available() raised ImportError inside its fail-closed try and the
whole connector surface was silently dark on a plain upstream checkout.

On this tree availability is the two-leg AND the design started with:
tools.connectors.enabled AND managed_nous_tools_enabled(). The free-tier leg
is a hermes-magic concern and belongs in hermes-magic's own delta over this
branch, next to the identity it depends on. Its integration test goes with it.

* docs(tool-search): connectors section — remote tools through the bridge

The squashed port carried the code but not the user-facing docs. Restores the
Connectors section of the Tool Search page and the connector-gateway host /
CONNECTOR_GATEWAY_URL override on the Tool Gateway page, updated for the
manage_connections tool and the pure-connector batch rule.

* fix(tool-search): connector tools rank with local tools in one pass instead of taking leftover slots

dispatch_tool_search ran BM25 over the local catalog, filled `limit` slots,
then appended connector hits only into slots left empty. On a 300-tool
catalog no slot was ever empty, so with Gmail and Google Calendar connected
"send gmail email" returned five betterstack tools and zero connector tools.

The gateway's hits for a query now become catalog entries (connector name,
slug words, description as the search text) and join the local catalog for
that query's BM25 pass. One ranking, one rarest-token admission rule for both
sources, `limit` as the total per query. The merge loop and the separate
record builder for connector hits are gone; `_shared_tool_record` serves both
sources.

The gateway search timeout rises from 8 s to 30 s. One request with six
use_cases measured 7 s, so 8 s sat on the edge and cut real answers off; the
failure path is unchanged (local-only results, no error to the model).

Live, 311 local tools + gateway, before -> after:
"send gmail email": 5 betterstack tools -> gmail SEND_EMAIL, CREATE_EMAIL_DRAFT
"read google calendar events": 5 betterstack tools -> googlecalendar EVENTS_LIST_ALL_CALENDARS
"linear create issue", "betterstack incident": unchanged
Benchmark (25 labelled queries): connector recall 0.09 -> 0.82, precision@5
0.18 -> 0.59, false positives on absent intents 17 -> 2.

* refactor(tool-search): connector leg into tools/connector_search.py

tools/tool_search.py is a facade. The connector leg (gateway hits as catalog
entries for tool_search, remote schemas for tool_describe, the
connections_in_scope gate) was appended to it by the port. It now lives in
its own sibling, tools/connector_search.py, and the facade imports the three
entry points: connections_in_scope, connector_entries_by_group,
remote_schemas_for.

No behaviour change. The tool_describe remote block became
remote_schemas_for(names, current_tool_defs, connector_describe) with the
same inputs, the same silent-degradation contract and the same injection
seam the tests already use.

* fix(tool-search): at most 7 queries per call, the gateway's search limit

One tool_search call sends all its queries to the connector gateway as one
search request. The gateway answers 7 use_cases per request and returns
HTTP 502 for 8 or more (measured 2026-09-09, re-measured with one-word
use_cases: it is a count limit, not a size limit). With the client cap at
10, a model sending 8 to 10 queries lost every connector hit for that call
and saw local-only results with no error.

The shared constant splits: _MAX_QUERIES_PER_CALL = 7 for search,
_MAX_DESCRIBE_NAMES_PER_CALL = 10 for describe, which has no remote count
limit. Eight or more queries now get the existing "too many queries" retry
hint before any request is made. No chunking: one call, one request.

* fix(tool-search): the model is told that connectors__ names are manage_connections accounts

tool_search results carry names like connectors__gmail__CREATE_EMAIL_DRAFT and
manage_connections is the tool that checks and connects those accounts, but
nothing told the model the two are the same thing. A model that hit
CONNECTION_REQUIRED had to infer the fix on its own.

The tool_search description gains one sentence making the link, added at
assembly only when manage_connections is in the session's tools. Signed out
or with connectors off the tool is absent and the description is unchanged,
so it never names a tool the model cannot call. This follows the existing
rule for cross-tool references (tools/AGENTS.md): they are added dynamically
from the session's actual tool set, never hardcoded in a schema.

Tool defs are fixed for the life of a conversation, so the description is
byte-stable per conversation; this is a one-time prefix change.

Live, real get_tool_definitions() against a signed-in home: sentence present.
Same home with auth.json removed: manage_connections absent, sentence absent.

* fix(connectors): /stop halts a connector batch before the next remote call

dispatch_connector_batch runs every remote entry of a tool_call batch in
sequence. The executor only checks the interrupt flag between tools, and
the whole batch is one tool to it, so a /stop landing during entry 1 of
20 still sent the other 19 to the gateway.

The loop now reads tools.interrupt.is_interrupted before each dispatch.
Once set, it stops calling handle_function_call and fills every unstarted
slot with the loop's existing error-slot shape, code INTERRUPTED and the
message "Stopped by the user before this call was made.", so the result
envelope stays valid and the counts stay honest. Entries already
dispatched keep their real results.

Test: three connector calls where the fake client sets the interrupt on
the first execute. The client sees exactly one call and slots 2 and 3
carry INTERRUPTED. Red on the base branch, green with the fix.

* test(connections): schema assertions become dispatch contracts

test_schema_documents_wait_and_its_timeout froze description fragments
("REQUIRED", "can NOT disconnect", "Nous Portal"). A wording edit fails
it while a real regression (a disconnect that reaches the gateway) does
not. That is a snapshot of prose, not a behaviour contract.

Delete it. The requirement that wait needs connectors is already covered
by test_wait_requires_connectors. The user-only disconnect boundary is
now asserted as behaviour: action disconnect with a connector returns an
error and the fake client records no call. That replaces the earlier
de-authenticate test, which only checked that the word "dashboard"
appeared in the error text.

Test count in the file goes from 26 to 25.

* docs(tool-search): connector batches are one gateway request per entry

The user guide said a connector batch travels as one gateway request. It
does not: model_tools_connectors.dispatch_connector_batch re-enters core
dispatch per entry, and each entry becomes its own execute request in
bridge._run_remote (plus at most one literal-slug retry when the gateway
reports TOOL_NOT_FOUND under the conventional slug). The docstrings in
tools/tool_gateway/bridge.py and tools/tool_gateway/__init__.py still
described the abandoned V1 plan and claimed nothing outside the package
imports it.

Rewrite those sentences to match the code: one request per entry, in
input order, dispatched from model_tools_connectors.py, with the per-entry
approval and interrupt behaviour that motivated the split. The guide also
still showed the single-call shape tool_call(name, arguments); both
places now show the `calls: [{name, arguments}]` array the schema
advertises and note that a single local call is an array of one.

Docs only, no test.

* fix(tools): the between-turns refresh never rewrites the bridge tools

The per-turn MCP refresh folds a fresh tool snapshot into the live array
with preserve_prefix: order and membership stay, but a name present in both
takes the fresh schema. That is right for ordinary tools, whose schema is a
constant. tool_search is the one tool whose description is derived from the
session: the deferred-tool count, the embedded listing, and, on this branch,
whether manage_connections was present. A late MCP server or one failed
portal lookup (manage_connections' check_fn fails closed) changed those bytes
on the next turn, and every byte after tool_search in the cached prefix was
re-prefilled. The array also contradicted itself in that case: the flapping
manage_connections was carried forward while the description lost its hint.

The bridge entries now keep the bytes they were built with for the life of
the conversation. Nothing is lost: tool_search reads the live catalog at
dispatch, so tools that arrived late are still found; connector availability
is checked at dispatch too. The compaction-boundary rebuild (content_aware,
the one sanctioned cache break) still refreshes the description.

Consequence: connector exposure in the prompt is decided once, at agent
build, by whether the user was signed in then. That is the intended
contract.

* refactor(tool-search): normalize_tool_call_entries lives with the other argument validation

The port appended the tool_call argument parser to the tool_search facade.
The family already has tools/tool_search_validation.py for exactly this
work (schema validation of deferred call arguments), so the parser moves
there and the facade imports it. No behaviour change; the one test that
imported it now imports from the defining module.

* refactor(connectors): delete the unused batch dispatcher; _run_remote becomes run_remote

bridge.dispatch_calls and its helpers (_dispatch_calls_inner, _run_pre_dispatch,
_run_local, _error_slot, _maybe_parse_json) and the LocalDispatch / PreDispatch
seams had no production caller. Connector dispatch runs through
model_tools_connectors: dispatch_connector_batch re-enters handle_function_call
once per entry, so scope, hook, approval and middleware policy fire against each
composed name inside core dispatch, and dispatch_connector_call hands the single
planned entry to the bridge's transport function. Only tests called the batch
dispatcher, and they exercised policy seams that production never wires.

The transport function is the module's real entry point, so it drops the
underscore: _run_remote becomes run_remote, body unchanged. The module
docstring now describes the two legs that exist (availability with D32 silent
degradation, and run_remote) instead of the injected seams. Imports that only
the deleted code used are gone; merge.py is untouched because every export
still has a caller.

Tests that drove dispatch_calls are deleted where they covered the removed
seams (pre_dispatch blocks and rewrites, local_dispatch classification, mixed
batches). The literal-slug fallback, the per-entry transport failure, and the
hook rewrite reaching the gateway request body are re-targeted at
handle_function_call('tool_call', ...) with the fake client swapped in at
bridge._default_client_factory, the same seam test_connector_dispatch_policy
uses. Each re-targeted test fails when the retry is disabled in run_remote.

* fix(connectors): search keeps the twin a colliding name reaches, and says so

format_connector_name strips the toolkit prefix, so GMAIL_FETCH_PROFILE and a
literal FETCH_PROFILE on gmail both compose to connectors__gmail__FETCH_PROFILE.
describe and execute decode that name to the prefixed slug first, so the
literal twin is unreachable under it. If a vendor ever shipped both, search
could describe the literal under a name that runs the prefixed tool.

Search is the one place that sees both twins in one response. It now keeps
the twin the name reaches and drops the other with a WARNING that names both
slugs, whichever the gateway listed first. Short names stay; no marker, no
per-process map, no change to describe or execute. No such pair exists in the
live catalog today; the guard turns a silent alias into a logged one.

Teknium d9e64e9165 fix(state): record display_identity/display_order in the messages schema history
#106582 (1c6683e8e0) added display_identity and display_order to the messages

SCHEMA_HISTORY["messages"], so test_replayed_history_ends_at_current_schema

Teknium 6f3e630b47 fix(auth): honor Desktop-saved model.key_env for registry providers
The Desktop settings UI persists a registry provider's API key as a
credential pointer -- model.key_env in config.yaml pointing at an env var
in $HERMES_HOME/.env (e.g. HERMES_CUSTOM_LMSTUDIO_API_KEY) -- while
keeping model.provider on the registry id. _resolve_api_key_provider_secret
resolved registry providers exclusively from
PROVIDER_REGISTRY[...].api_key_env_vars, so the UI-saved key was silently
ignored; for lmstudio the runtime then substituted the no-auth placeholder
(dummy-lm-api-key) and auth-enabled LM Studio servers rejected every
request with an opaque, retryable-flagged 401.

Fix: consult model.key_env (only when config.yaml's main model targets the
provider being resolved, so the pointer never leaks across providers)
before the registry env vars, running the value through the same
_usable_declared_secret prefix validation. Precedence for the canonical
env vars and the credential pool is unchanged; a valid canonical key still
wins when no pointer is set.

Complements #75373, which covers providers.<id>.key_env at the provider
level; the Desktop save path writes the pointer at the model level, which
that PR does not consult.

Teknium b7bef04861 fix(kanban): an explicit scratch workspace never inherits the board's project
Move the "explicit scratch means no project" decision into the one resolver
every surface funnels through, `kanban_db.create_task`: board-project
inheritance now runs only when the caller left `workspace_kind` open
(`None`), and `workspace_kind` defaults to scratch after that check. The
tool handler keeps the #106347 fix for `project=""` (no `or` collapse) and
`board=` scoping but drops its handler-local sentinel logic, since the
resolver now owns the rule; the `self_task` project inheritance for
dispatcher-owned workers is unchanged.

Sibling surfaces had the same bug through the same line and are fixed by
the same change:
- CLI `hermes kanban create --workspace scratch` on a project-scoped board
produced a project worktree; `--workspace` no longer defaults in
argparse so the resolver can tell "omitted" from "scratch".
- Dashboard `POST /tasks` with `workspace_kind: "scratch"` did the same;
`CreateTaskBody.workspace_kind` defaults to `None` for the same reason.
- `kanban_swarm.create_swarm` threads `None` through for consistency.

Tests: one resolver invariant in test_kanban_board_project.py (explicit
scratch stays scratch, omitted still inherits) and the salvaged tool test
folded into a single parametrized matrix over scoped/unscoped target boards.

teknium1 53b9615ea6 test(hermes_cli): keep one opencode-go delisting invariant; record the delisting beside the keyed-suffix set
Drop the floor-pin test from #106290 (a snapshot of the static table); the
end-to-end merge test through provider_model_ids with the real curated floor

_OPENCODE_FREE_KEYED_SUFFIX_MODELS why ox-alpha-free stays excluded from the
keyless catalog even though it left the curated floor.

ten82e b2cae54035 fix(hermes_cli): drop delisted ox-alpha-free from opencode-go curated floor
The Go relay (GET /zen/go/v1/models) delisted ox-alpha-free 2026-09-09, but
_PROVIDER_MODELS["opencode-go"] still carried it. _profile_live_catalog merges
the curated floor into the live list (live-first for opencode-go), so the
model picker kept offering a model that now 401s — the same failure class as
#95914 (opencode-free / x-preview-f-free).

Remove it from the floor and add two regression tests: an end-to-end merge
test through provider_model_ids with the real floor (fails if a stale floor
resurrects it) and a floor-pin test asserting the known-delisted model stays
out of the offline fallback.

liuhao1024 5ddc5b6b0e fix(cli): concurrent PTY reaps skip already-popped keys
reap_idle() is reached concurrently from attach_or_spawn() and the
background run_reaper loop, and each pop is followed by an awaited
close(); while one reap is parked inside close(), a second reap reaching
the same doomed key hit dict.pop(key) without a default and raised
KeyError straight into the websocket handler. close_all() has the same
overlap window against an in-flight reap.

Pop with a default and skip keys a concurrent reap already removed, so
overlapping reaps are idempotent. Which sessions get reaped is
unchanged.

Teknium ac087e6ada fix(console): cancel/timeout interrupts the command's agent and waits for the worker
Hermes Console ran each command on a ThreadPoolExecutor and cancelled only
the asyncio waiter. A command that forks an AIAgent (`curator run
--consolidate`) kept its worker thread and its in-flight provider request
alive after the prompt said "cancelled" — a llama.cpp generation kept
decoding for 30+ minutes and held the inference slot (#106179).

Root cause: the host owning the thread never knew about the agent created
deep inside the synchronous command, so it could not call the existing
cooperative `interrupt()` path that closes the request sockets.

Fix: `agent/interrupt_scope.py` gives the host an `InterruptScope`; the
console binds it around the worker (ContextVar), and every
`AIAgent.run_conversation()` registers itself with the bound scope for the
turn. On cancel, timeout and disconnect the console calls `scope.cancel()`
(hard-interrupts every registered agent; an agent registering after the
cancel is interrupted on entry so the cancel cannot lose the race with a
turn that has not started) and awaits the worker Future with a 10s bound
before reporting cancelled/timeout. Queued-but-unstarted work is dropped via
`Future.cancel()` alone.

Live repro (fake OpenAI-compatible provider blocking like llama.cpp, real
/api/console, real curator dispatch, real AIAgent + direct request path):
origin/main at the "cancelled" frame -> request_exited=false,
worker_exited=false; with this change -> both true, provider saw the peer
close, prompt reported cancelled 0.27s after the frame.

Salvage of #106197 by @kyssta-exe (executor-future handle, cancel/timeout/
disconnect propagation) and #106320 by @Xixiartemis (deterministic
lifecycle regression: terminal(cancelled) => no owned request or worker
remains live; interrupt-on-late-registration). Both rebuilt slimmer: #106197 keyed its fallback on Future.cancel()
returning False, but the handle it held was run_in_executor's asyncio
wrapper, whose cancel() returns True while the thread keeps running, so its
thread-name abort registry was never consulted; #106320's command-scoped
ownership model is folded into one small module hooked at the turn facade
instead of a per-caller `bind_agent`.

liuhao1024 77ca949b90 fix(cli): stop dpaste.com fallback from leaking debug logs for 7 days
The dpaste.com fallback path kept pastes for 7 days (vs the promised
6-hour auto-delete), could not be deleted by `hermes debug delete`
(anonymous pastes have no owner token), and the pending-paste sweep
skipped dpaste URLs entirely — while the share output still claimed
pastes auto-delete in 6 hours.

- Default the dpaste.com fallback retention to 1 day (dpaste's minimum)
across --expire, upload_to_pastebin, and build_debug_share so the
  dashboard endpoint benefits too
- Print an accurate warning when uploads fall back to dpaste.com
(retention window + no delete path) instead of the 6-hour promise
- Mention the fallback retention in the CLI and gateway privacy notices
before the user consents to uploading
- Explain in `hermes debug delete` errors why dpaste.com pastes cannot
be deleted and that they expire on their own

Teknium 1a500a43a7 fix(gateway): keep launchd_stop's bootout quiet too; prove the fd-2 invariant with a fake launchctl
Widens #106272 to the one remaining sibling: `launchd_stop()` boots out with check=True and
already handles exit 3/113/125 (job unloaded) and 5/125 (domain unmanageable) by falling through
to the PID kill, yet inherited stderr — so `hermes gateway stop` against an unloaded job printed
"Boot-out failed: 3: No such process" next to "✓ Service stopped". Same `_CAPTURE_TEXT` kwargs as
the sibling calls; an unexpected exit still raises with `e.stderr` populated.

Replaces the contributor's two kwarg-assertion tests (`capture_output is True` on a mocked
`subprocess.run`) with two invariant tests that run a real fake `launchctl` on PATH and read fd 2
through `capfd`: restart-on-unloaded prints only its ↻/✓ lines and drives
kickstart→bootout→bootstrap→kickstart; stop-on-unloaded is silent, while a real bootout failure
(exit 1) still raises with the captured stderr. Both red on origin/main, green here.

Davy ebcc87ad4f fix(gateway): silence expected launchctl bootout/kickstart noise on macOS
Best-effort bootout calls (unloaded-job recovery, stale-EIO retry,
plist refresh, uninstall) and the handled kickstart -k in
launchd_restart inherited the terminal's stderr, so an expected
unloaded job printed raw launchctl errors around the CLI's own lines:

Could not find service "ai.hermes.gateway" in domain for user gui: 501
↻ launchd job was unloaded; reloading
Boot-out failed: 3: No such process

Capture them with _CAPTURE_TEXT instead. The kickstart error stays
available as e.stderr for the update_cmd failure diagnostic, and the
post-bootstrap kickstart intentionally stays loud (its failure feeds
the domain-unsupported fallback). Same precedent as the reload
helper, which already runs bootout with 2>/dev/null.

[salvage: picked hermes_cli/gateway.py only; the two capture_output kwarg-assertion tests are
replaced by fd-level invariant tests with a fake launchctl in the follow-up commit]

teknium1 8d93081971 fix(desktop): stop flagging local/LAN auxiliary pins as stale
An aux task pinned to a private endpoint via `base_url` (a home Ollama
box at `byron.local`, a LAN IP, localhost) is the intended per-task
endpoint feature and can never bill a provider. The Settings → Model
banner still counted it as "still run on openai" forever and offered
"Reset all to main", which would wipe the working local setup; the
post-switch `stale_aux` report had the same blind spot; and the aux row
never showed the `base_url` the backend already sends, so the pin was
indistinguishable from a paid-provider pin.

- `GET /api/model/auxiliary` now stamps each task with `local_endpoint`,
the verdict of the one canonical classifier
(`agent/model_metadata.py::is_local_endpoint`) — no TS mirror of the
private-range rules, so frontend and runtime cannot drift.
- Desktop: the persistent banner filter is the pure
`staleAuxAssignments()` and skips `local_endpoint` pins; the pinned row
appends ` · <base_url>` when one is set.
- `_stale_aux_pins` (post-switch report) skips local pins the same way.
- `is_local_endpoint`: `*.local` (RFC 6762 mDNS) now counts as local, and
IPv6 literals no longer ride the "no dots ⇒ unqualified host" rule, so
  a global-scope address (`2607:f8b0::1`) is not local while `::1`,
ULA and link-local still are via the `ipaddress` scope checks.

Slim redo of #106236 (@webtecnica) and #106234 (@huklaa), which fixed the
same symptom with a client-side classifier copy; the bug class, row
display and mDNS/IPv6 classifier corrections are theirs.

teknium1 113304199e refactor(desktop): gate the WSLg D3D12 selection inside the helper and test the real launch env
Move the WSL / /dev/dxg / d3d12_dri.so probes into _prefer_wsl_d3d12 with
the probed paths as module constants, so the launcher call site is a single
line and a test can lay out a fake WSLg host without touching real
/dev or /usr/lib. The two tests now run the real _desktop_launch_env end to
end (selected under WSL+dxg+driver; untouched with an explicit Mesa
override, off WSL, without /dev/dxg, or without the driver file) instead of
unit-testing the helper with a precomputed boolean.

teknium1 a785db3672 fix(cli): inline the $HERMES_HOME/npmrc lookup, trim tests to two, document it
Fold the helper into _npm_lifecycle_env itself: the whole fix is one

try/except around get_hermes_home() (it never raises) and the

with os.fspath so it is correct on Windows too.

Tests: keep the two invariants (file present -> NPM_CONFIG_USERCONFIG

sets nothing), fold the other two into the negative test.

teknium1 d3dcc064df fix(cli): detect ssl.SSLError by type in the Codex login hint; trim tests; add the openssl.cnf snippet to docs
- _ssl_interop_hint: also match ssl.SSLError instances (and one level of

teknium1 02005cfe20 fix(kanban): promote refuses undone parents instead of a false --force success
`hermes kanban promote --force <id>` printed `Promoted <id> -> ready` and
then the very next claim (a human `claim`, or the dispatcher tick seconds
later) demoted the task back to `todo` with `claim_rejected
{parents_not_done}` and returned None (#106195). The non-force refusal
even pointed operators at `--force` as the escape hatch.

The claim gate is deliberate: `claim_task` is the single enforcement point
("never ready -> running with an undone parent, whichever writer set
'ready'", cda20eec0c), and `complete_task`/`request_review` re-check the
same predicate, so a child let through by a forced claim could still never
finish. A promotion override therefore has no honest outcome; the
dependency edge is the real knob.

- drop `--force` from `promote` (parser, CLI handler, `promote_task`
kwarg, the `forced` event field nothing read)
- the refusal message now states why the gate cannot be bypassed and names
the working remedies: complete the parents or `hermes kanban unlink`
- two invariant tests: refusal on an undone parent leaves `todo` with no
fake `ready`; the flag no longer parses

Salvage direction from #75354 by @vyacheslavk (diagnosis of the promote ->
claim gap); the consume-at-claim authorization there is not taken because
the same parent gate also blocks completion of the forced child.

Totoro-qaq 5d6d5fb223 fix(cli): refresh TERMINAL_CWD when --in re-homes the session
`--in DIR` only chdir'd. Every cwd consumer (resolve_agent_cwd -> Codex
app-server thread cwd, the terminal tool, context-file discovery) prefers
TERMINAL_CWD over the process cwd, so a value inherited from a parent
Hermes surface, the shell or .env survived the chdir and the session kept
running in the old directory. The local backend was rescued by cli.py's
force-export at import time; docker/ssh backends and the TUI launch path,
which never imports cli.py, were not.

Refresh TERMINAL_CWD to the --in target when it is already set. An unset
variable stays unset so the backends keep deriving from the new process
cwd and no host path is pre-seeded into ssh/container backends.
