Follow-up to b8f99bfc43: the seam edits for hermes_state_repair.py and tools/approval_detection.py
were overwritten by a concurrent squad's write before that commit landed (only their docstring
restores got in). Re-apply: _repair_conn/_open_exclusive/_db_opens_cleanly look up
_connect_repair_durable via hermes_state at call time; detect_dangerous_command/
detect_hardline_command look up _command_detection_variants via tools.approval, so patching the
facade (as tests/state/test_state_db_wal_unlink_race.py and tests/hermes_cli/test_approvals_test.py
do) reaches the call again, as on BASE 63279301bc.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
Reviewer P2 (kshitijk4poor): tests patch hermes_cli.models.get_cached_nous_inference_base_url
but models_pricing.pricing_cache_scope read its own module global, so the patch never reached
the call and the test passed on the default-endpoint fallback. Same seam-erosion class audited
across /tmp/rf/patch_traps.json (777 candidates) with an AST reachability check + a per-test
call-count probe (facade vs defining module) against BASE 63279301bcb; three seams actually
bypassed their patch on HEAD but not on BASE:
- hermes_cli.models.get_cached_nous_inference_base_url <- models_pricing.pricing_cache_scope
- hermes_state._connect_repair_durable <- hermes_state_repair._open_exclusive/_repair_conn/_db_opens_cleanly
- tools.approval._command_detection_variants <- approval_detection.detect_{dangerous,hardline}_command
Each now looks the name up through its facade at call time (the pattern hermes_state_repair
already used in live_writer_holds_db), restoring BASE's patchability.
ethernet8023: TestValidateImageUrl (incl. localhost block) was deleted with the sync
validator. Both names restored with BASE semantics; the async validator (the live
download path) now shares _image_url_shape_ok and gets its own localhost/malformed test.
ethernet8023: both documented VAD false-trip regression tests were deleted with the
function they covered. listen_for_speech is public API on main (plugins may import it),
so the body is restored byte-identical to BASE; full_duplex_listen/_BargeDetector is
A/B-verified identical to BASE over 400 fuzzed playback/speech scenarios.
main guarded scroll's x/y independently (coordinate=[null,100] -> y=100),
while click treats a coordinate without x as no point. The shared _xy()
applied click semantics to scroll; split out _scroll_xy() with main's
per-axis guard and pin both behaviors in a test.
`_write_schema_cache` in the extracted owner tools/mcp_tool_registration.py
read `t.inputSchema` with a bare camelCase getattr. mcp 2.0 renamed the
model field to `input_schema` and kept `inputSchema` only as a serialization
alias, which pydantic does not apply to attribute access, so on SDK 2.x the
cache persisted `"inputSchema": {}` for every tool and a `lazy: true` server
registered from that cache was advertised to the model with all parameters
stripped. Pre-existing on BASE (tools/mcp_tool.py); fixed with the canonical
`mcp_field(t, "input_schema", "inputSchema")` helper, as both PRs do.
Adds the real-SDK regression test from #102129 (genuine `mcp.types.Tool`
driven through `_register_server_tools` -> cache write ->
`_register_from_cache_sync`), ported to the new module layout and isolated
from the module-global registration state.

The memory guidance led with 'Save proactively' and the memory tool schema
ranked 'user preferences & corrections' as top priority, while the skills
nudge was a conditional 'offer to save'. In practice that asymmetry made
the agent end sessions writing memory entries (fighting a 2,200-char
budget) and skip updating the skill it had just used, even though the
procedure was the reusable artifact. Both surfaces now state the same
rule with skills first: what you learn doing a task, including the user's
preferences and corrections for that kind of work, goes in the task's
skill; memory is only for facts that apply to every session.
Repo scanners (check_subprocess_stdin, check-windows-footguns --all) flagged 21 sites where
the r3 single-line collapses lost stdin=DEVNULL, encoding='utf-8'/errors='replace', the
'# windows-footgun: ok' same-line marker, or the getattr(os, 'geteuid') gate. Each guard is
restored at the call site (real portability/hang fixes, not suppressions).
A fan-out of N in-process subagents used to add one sleeping daemon
thread per delegated child (delegate heartbeat, 30s) and one or two per
active turn (durable turn-lease refresher; turn-liveness watchdog). A
profiled session with ~130 children was carrying ~1000 threads. All
of these timers now run on a single process-wide daemon thread.
- agent/periodic_scheduler.py (new): heap-ordered periodic scheduler on
one Condition-driven daemon thread. schedule(fn, interval) -> handle;
handle.cancel(wait=) blocks for an in-flight run like the old join.
A callback returning False stops itself; a raising callback is logged
at debug and rescheduled, so one bad timer cannot kill the rest.
- tools/delegate_tool.py: _heartbeat_loop body -> _heartbeat_tick,
scheduled at _HEARTBEAT_INTERVAL; stale-cycle closure state and
idle/in-tool thresholds unchanged; cancel(wait=5) in finally where the
stop-event + join(5) lived.
- run_agent.py: _refresh_durable_turn_lease body scheduled at
_lease_refresh_interval; lease-lost / refresh-error interrupt paths
and the stop-event fencing are unchanged; the join(timeout=1.0) is now
cancel(wait=1.0) so the interrupt clear still runs after any in-flight
tick.
- agent/turn_liveness.py: TurnLivenessWatchdog.make_thread/start ->
schedule(); the poll body is _tick(), same sampling state machine.
Bench (evals/fanout_resource_bench.py, 30 children / 10 worktrees,
ok=30/30 both): peak threads 168 -> 132. At peak the old tree held 30
"Thread-N (_heartbeat_loop)" threads; the new one holds zero plus one
"hermes-periodic-scheduler".
memory_tool_store: _error() helper for every failure dict, reload folded into
_mutate, load_from_disk loops over targets with an inline snapshot sanitizer,
_locate inlined into _edit, batch-op splice, drift check compacted; on-disk
format and every result string unchanged (golden corpus).
memory_tool: single _apply_write_gate handles op + batch, _batch_op_line helper,
gate/validation returns folded, on-disk store built directly.
session_search_tool: _get_session_meta unifies 5 get_session lookups, rebuild
note folded into _discover_payload via _ok, lineage dedupe inlined into
_discover, scroll rebind inlined, title-match shaping via one closure, browse
comprehension, unreachable scroll guard dropped, single hermes_state import.
microsoft_graph_client/auth: signatures hugged, bodiless-response handling
inlined, header dict built in one expression, dead from_env removed.
process_registry_notifications: _preamble merges header/task-source/role lines,
_notice_lines shared, table-driven completion status, comprehension headers.
Schemas byte-identical (SCHEMA-OK); golden corpus old-vs-new identical.
- patch_parser: shared _fail/_written/_unified_diff apply helpers, single PatchResult build,
flattened apply loop, merged inert/no-op hunk skips, overlay _remove, dropped never-set
PatchOperation.content
- self_repo_guard: conditional git-mutation predicates as a dispatch table over one _has_flag,
unified git global-option/alias parse, suppress() for resolve/alias/shlex, folded scope and
heredoc scanners
- shell_heredoc: unit scanner and operator parser as single if/elif ladders, unified quote masking
- read_extract: groupby gap runs, single try for anydoc, islice/suppress xlsx loops, folded
notebook/docx render loops, _zip_xml optional -> empty element
- schema_sanitizer: folded rename/type-array/recovery-strip loops, _dict_nodes/_carry_union_meta
- docstrings/comments compacted by hand (every WHY kept)
Verified: tool-schema dump byte-identical (SCHEMA-OK); golden corpus over pure functions and
every registry schema + edge cases byte-identical vs 113f046 base (GOLDEN-OK); 95 test files
2517 passed (2 pre-existing reds in test_web_tools_config also fail on base).
