httpStatusError became the single writer of statusCode but the PR left four verbatim readers (native-auth-decisions, two in connection-config, the startHermes catch). readStatusCode in api-transport is the read side. The module-level bootProgressHeldFor existed only to dedupe a log line; logging where the latch is set does the same with no mutable state. No behaviour change.
